I did a search, lots of info but they are on various threads. I thought I'd start a new thread with the clear subject and hopefully not only help me but others also searching for the same information. I apologize if there is already a thread on this that I didnt see. I sold my 2009 BMW M6 last week and now in the market for 360 Spider. Found a 2003 Spider for sale with only 10,XXX miles. Latest service records show annual service / all belts and fluids replaced last year. Clutch life is at 50%. I would like to prepare myself for clutch replacement. Choices of course for clutch job is dealer or independent shop. I was quoted by Ferrari of Seattle yesterday: "$9,000.00 + Tax. (($3K is labor, $6K in parts)). The quote does not include flywheel which is an additional $1,700.00 if needed." So we are looking at around $12,000.00 including tax. I am waiting to hear back from Indy shops quotes. My question is for the ones that had their clutch job done by dealer / indy shop - would you folks be kind enough to share replacement costs info for a clutch job? Many thanks in advance. Dan
Some discussion a couple of weeks ago here http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/360-430/436496-clutch-being-replaced-2-quotes.html
Here are the parts prices for the replacement clutch on mine (sorry I don't have labor costs). Clutch assembly $1270.93 Ring gear $572.69 Mounting bolts $43.74 Bushing $618.39 Sealer rings (3) $66.88 Scraper rings $23.31 Sensor kit complete $325.16 Clutch sensor mount $76.00 T/O bearing bolt $39.60 Gearbox support $134.98 Total parts $3218.78 (not including gearbox fluids). Hope this helps. Alan
Yeah, but that whole post, only one person actually talked about cost......I would like to know as well.....
Hi Alan, Thank you very much for sharing info. Did you have yours done at the dealership or Indy mechanic? Based on your figures for parts costs, dealership charges twice as much for parts..... Dan
Hi Jimmie., Thanks for sharing the link. I actually read that thread before starting this thread and there was not much info on that thread on clutch job costs. I thought if we can contain clutch job costs here members wont have to jump from thread to thread. Have a great weekend. Dan
I won't quote the exact price but I had the clutch, timing belts, water pump and several other things done for FAR less than you were quoted for clutch alone.
The cost of parts is hardly a secret since anyone who can be bothered can find them on Ricambi's site - then its just a function of labor rate based on the official hours (or experience) This can vary in the UK from about fifty bucks an hour for someone who is small enough not to have to charge sales tax (VAT) to nearly 300 bucks including tax for a large dealer - that will make a huge difference to the final bill
Just had my clutch done (1 week ago) from Foreign Cars Italia. Here is the breakdown; Clutch Kit $1,500 Labor $2,000 Gear Oil $125 Engine Oil $127 Shop Supplies $55 Tax at 7% $122.21 Total $3,932 They (the dealership) stated I did not need to replace the throw out bearing which would have been $900 (I would have told them to replace it while there) And the flywheel was good, but if not add another $1,200 Two year warranty. Hope this helps.
So $4800 with TO bearing. That is in-line with what i was quoted a couple of years back. The OP's quote from FoS is hard to comprehend. (I want pics of the call girl they are including in that price)
Excellent information. Thanks Chris! Interesting us members here learning through this thread how much prices can vary from dealer to dealer (huge difference. Almost worth it for me to drive out of State, enjoy the weekend somewhere with my wife, rent a car for a couple of days, have a great dinner somewhere, then enjoy the drive home and still come out ahead. Thanks again. Dan
I hear ya. And this is why I am requesting members here to share info. Interesting to learn how much prices vary. FoS is famous for charging premium price. They are also famous for unheard of charges, such as - my local friends told me FoS charged them "Test Drive Fee" for test driving their Ferrari after service being done. What? Yep, true story... You're right, maybe their price comes with a blond hooker to take home after car service We can talk.....
No problem on providing the information. I was happy with the job they did and the car shifts MUCH better and does not drop out of gear. When reading through the posts about clutches, they seem to last to about 28K in miles. I did ask the dealership about using some of Hill Engineering parts (possibility of using their throw out bearing etc) and I was told that - if I brought my own parts, it would not be a problem, but I would not get the 2 year warranty. That was based on "if something went wrong, it could be possible that it was my part and not one they supplied". I was not willing to take the chance.
Regular door rate w/ throw out bearing and ring gear $5600.00 FChat / FCA members get 10% off that. OEM parts, 3 year part and labor warranty* S * Failure of componants, NOT wear.
I'm curious, was the charge for driving to set readiness codes for state inspection? Or maybe " diagnosis " time, IE: client had an intermittant driveability concern that required the car be driven for an extended amount of time. Technican's are like Doctors and Lawyers, their time is all they get paid for.. Curious.. What Ferrari Dealership charges $300USD per hour for repairs???? Yikes, LOL S
We quote it , as it's better to call back and say, " Once removed and inspected, you do not need it " rather than quote low, get you in the door then you get the " Oh, by the way, while it's out, look what we found... " approach. I've experienced 50/50 , so no, not all need it. The question is, while it's out, and you are paying the same labor either way, is it cheaper to replace it all at once? We advise based upon actual condition after removal. S
Hi Steve, I wish that was the case. I was told by my 2 friends that owns Ferraris that FoS charges them test drive fees after any service or any repair done to the car. Replaced faulty fuel pump = $ Test drive fee = $ Is that a common practice? Dan
That's a bunch of _______! Do they charge a fee for charging the fee? That is, the time needed to write out the bill? I suspect if they do that its to increase the bill to lessen the loss when you complain. I don't think it would hold up.. Test drive is confirmation of repair, which is not the burden of the client. Highly doubt they're right in doing this..
I hear you Curt. We all thought that was a rip off as well. Obviously my friends no longer take their car there any longer. There is an independent mechanic shop in Tacoma, about an hour drive south of Seattle. They charge fair price and dont charge "test drive fees". Dan
