Topped off antifreeze on 360 this week…..was told to use higher grade antifreeze and not fill with over the counter products. Just fyi to our newbies. If people have recommended grades or brands please add to chain…..Thanks

This coolant from BMW has been used in my F430 for the last 5 years mixed 50/50.
It was highly recommended by many.

Why not use as recommended by Ferrari or compatible?
Ferrari recommends Glycoshell that is not manufactured anymore but there is other compatible products from other suppliers.

I have attached picture of the Glycoshell product sheet and relevant performance requirements and standards.

I use products that confirms to TL-774 C.

G05 is NOT ok, it's mainly for heavy duty diesel engines and it contains stuff not suitable in a Ferrari engine.

BASF Glysantin G48 is the correct one to use, available in the US under the name Valvoline Zerex G48.

So why are you saying G05 is not ok. I thought any Phosphate free antifreeze was good to use. I thought G 05 was ok because It's Phosphate free

G05 contains nitrite and that is not recommended by BASF to be used in a Ferrari engine, they said to me.

BASF is the company behind all Gxx coolants, and G48 is the exact same coolant as the Ferrari OEM Shell Glycoshell.
Shell did not manufacture the coolant themselves back then, BASF did.
Ferrari used the Glycoshell/G48 as first-fill coolant at the factory and the Ferrari dealers still uses G48 during service, up to MY2009.
Zerex G05 and G48 are both made by Valvoline, under license from BASF.

So where do you get the G48. Can you get it off the shelf at auto parts. I guess this is it

In US, probably all resellers of Valvoline should have or able to get Zerex G48.

In Europe where I live, BASF Glysantin G48 is commonly available in shops, you can even buy it online from Amazon.

I got my last batch on amazon .. I used it and recommend it on 360 430 .. i use it on my 512TR as well
The G48 is also used ( based on my prior research) and recommended by some truck ( diesel)with liners) manufacturers - that and the spec ( tests) show me enough I need to know that it is good for our cars
I used to be an avvocate of G05 but after doing research . too many questions / possible concerns that I went away from it

If i decide to make the switch, i assume its ok to have some of it mixed with the G05 untill i get it flushed out. Meaning a couple change outs

Use Honda coolant, best you can get for the F430.

Flush the old coolant out with a mix of 10% G48 and water, drive the car, redo with 50/50 G48/water.

I dont see it as a stupid post. The poster simply believes in honda coolant and i was wandering what you thought the difference was.

Thank you for the confirmation! My wife says the same sometimes... but seriously, just check the specs on that Honda coolant, it fits the bill OK. I spent hours and hours looking for the specifications of the previously recommended Ferrari coolant which is a no-buy now anymore... but each to it's own.

Well I didn't know that. Based on previous opinions on this forum, it seemed that at the time the opinions were the best was the 05 because of the liners. What grave harm have I done to my engine? I usually flush ev 2 yrs I can do it sooner no problem. Thank you. G48 is readily available at Walmart. For now at least, I haven't noted any deposits or cooling problems. What is the problem anticipated with the use of G05 that could be harmful and why ? I now realize that the G48 is closest in factory specified, but is there really that great of difference between the two? AS Lorenzo stated above it was free of phosphates. Are Nitrates more harmful to the engines and why? Thank you for your opinions.

The research that i did showed that it may be a little more corrosive on solder (maybe causing more damage to the heat exchanger).. the difference is slight I'm tech specs but just too many hits on it on the web referencing this. They did change the formula a little while back so not sure if the same concern.
