I am new to the chat and I am looking to find a close to pristine 308 GTS with low miles and problem free. I only want Rossa Corsa but open to the tan or black interior versions. Everything must work properly especially the AC unit. Service records are mandatory as is mileage documentation.

My ideal candidate would be a QV with tan interior that doesn't look like it spent 20 yrs in the desert. Minor modifications are ok as long as the exhaust is original or factory correct replacement. I want to give your baby its new forever home with obsessive compulsive maintenance and care. Yes it will get driven on nice days and to car shows and not relegated to garage queen status.

Anyone knowing of one or thinking about selling one sometime, please contact me. I'm not sure if this chat has notifications or not so I may not know you replied so be patient for a reply. Thanks for reading my 1st post.

Well, realistically I think that the baseline price should track the cars and bids as well as Bring a Trailer, Barrett Jackson and Mecum so that puts it around $75,000 even though Mecum and Bring a Trailer sales recently were in the $60's. I don't think that's fair to the owner and I want to be fair to an owner and not try and low ball them. The upper limit would depend on the service history and is fluid right now. Some of the Ferrari authorized dealers are trying to push the price to $125k which I think they may reach in the future but not right now. I hope that helps clarify its a little bit

I think for what you are describing, your budget is likely going to need to be a bit higher. You are looking for something that is very specific, and if you aren't willing to waiver on your requirements that price is going to go up accordingly.

I certainly won’t pretend to have the wisdom others here may. But, as a matter of reference, a year ago I bought an exceptional 1985 GTS with 28,000 miles and detailed service history for $120K. Rosso Corsa over tan. I then spent $35K to do everything it needed (short of engine out service) to make it perfect and reliable. In addition, it recently completed Classiche.

Admittedly, I didn’t peruse the web for the best price I could find. Rather, I wanted the best car I could find. It seems there are plenty of cars available at just about every price point. So, no doubt you’ll find one in your range. It comes down to how much of a project you want.

Thank you all for your thoughts and insights. THIS is the place to get the best information from. I have looked at some from all over the country so far and it seems the "dealers" (non authorized Ferrari) are very suspect. One I had a PPI done on in Hollywood CA that looked nice in their photos but the PPI photos showed it looked like it spent its life in the desert and also had rocker rot, in LA!. Another yesterday, a GTB had an excellent interior but the paint was a disaster, another in ST Paul at a Mercedes Dealer 'showed' 1300 miles but the car fax showed 40k miles. Another in Vermont was a flipper and hid the body damage from the photos and I drove 9.5 hrs to see it. Most of those were around $90k. And it goes on and on, this is why I now like the idea of private party sellers. I've spent months scouring the internet daily with notification alerts set up on every major site.

Although the preferred candidate is a QV, I am ok with any red 308 GTS that has been babied and with proper maintenance, that's why I came here to get guidance and possibly find someone that decides to change/move up/get a *gasp* lambo or whatever and wants to sell. Eventually the right one will come along. There's one 15 miles from me but he is a 'maybe sell in a couple years' and it's a 83 QV with 32k mile and close to perfection. *patiently tapping my toe.

Again, thank you for your input and I am glad to be part of your group!

Don't 'bug' the guy, but be around just enough to be noticed - one day you may catch him in a 'sell' frame of mind.

I've sold things to folks that have shown a serious interest in them when I could have sold them in the marketplace for more money,
and in a couple of instances I've given folks things for free that I could have sold, not cars of course, but you get my point.

@Roadsterboy - You will find that finding "rolled back" odometers are extremely common. This happens all the time. I also own an 85 GTS QV and I kept my eye on the market for 30 years before I bought mine in 2009. I learned more in six months here than I did in my previous 30 years of knowing and watching the market.

Almost any of these can be restored as long as it's a good honest car that's been looked after in some way. You don't want one that's been wrecked or ridden hard and put away wet obviously, but carpet, seat leather, and most mechanical parts can be replaced, although at some cost.

I bought mine at 64k miles or so. It's got some rock chips, it's got some seat wear, but it's an absolute blast to drive. But I know that the odometer reading is real. I have records going back to probably the late 90s on the car.

I absolutely advocate driving them!! If it isn't driven regularly it will develop problems that are much worse to fix.

Remember low mileage doesn’t mean problem fee. In fact it can mean just the opposite as in more problem. I personally have experienced this with my 1984 308 QV.

Well I found my new baby. It's a 1983 308 GTS rosso corsa and tan interior with beautiful paint and is my 3rd mid engine car joining my Porsche 914 and C8 Corvette hard top convertible. Now I can buy some goodies like fresh new floor mats and some minor accessories. I haven't figured out how to cancel the "Wanted" ad I posted though.
