Hello guys, ¿Have you seen this? 1968 Ferrari 275 GTS/4 NART Spider by Scaglietti | Monaco 2016 | RM Sotheby's Amazing car, RM kept it to the last second. Thoughts? Nico.
Given what the last one at auction brought in I'm surprised that another NART Spider owner hasn't been tempted to do this sooner. Stunning thing.
That was a one owner, funds to charity and first offered in nearly a decade, at least one other has sold since then so maybe with three sales in three years its a bit of a flood lol.
Yes , that is correct, so in that case the auction estimate seems in line. That is if the market will bear 3 sales in as many years.
With most of these high $$$ cars I think that this will go super big or fail to sell. Alternatively RM will shop it round your usual big ticket buyers and the sale will be negotiated prior to the auction with the bidding stopping when the buyer, or their agent, making the bid at the pre-ordained amount. Making it something of a...... I note that most of the 10 million plus lots at auctions have special bidder registration processes, possibly for this reason. Either way a beautiful car that deserves a good home
Wasn't a NART something like twice the price of a regular Berlinetta which would not have helped in shifting them?
Chinetti's sticker price was $14,400 which was the same as the berlinetta I think. Chinetti marked the cars up approx. 100% from his cost.
Thats a great question Mike. These are such rare and coveted cars that anyone with serious money and a great collection one would think would like to have one. Don't get me wrong when I say serious money, but there are plenty of collectors who have it. The car looked spectacular in pictures. They almost never come up for public sale. I would like to hear Marcel's thoughts.
Other than the car being in the wrong colors (exterior and interior), and having the wrong wheels, it has no real major issues/problems.
These problemas are not hard to fix, if you can afford the car itself. Very strange that there were no real bids.
I think people are forgetting the fact that the Eddy Smith 275 GTS/4 NART was sold with the proceeds going to charity and the high price achieved may have been partly due to that and not really indicative of NART Spyder's true value. However, I do know that it was reported that another 275 NART Spyder was sold for more soon after.
They should have lowered reserve and taken that bid, IMO...if it was real. This is a niche car, they are certainly very desirable, from a cruiser standpoint. But it lacks the value of an actual competition Ferrari. Maybe a good thing they did not make the whole Chinetti Order, of 25!!!!
s/n 10749 sold a few months after the auction of s/n 10709. Price was approximately the same without the auction premium.
Eddie smith car was also a 1 owner, very well cared for AND more importantly was the first offered in nearly a decade and as others have said funds to charity..... All of those factors added up to the result. This car was quite wonderful BUT was none of those things. Multiple owners, well cared for, third offered in three years and funds to the seller....... Marcel stated there was no real money in the room so they are legally allowed to take bids up to the reserve in the hope that someone real would actually bid rather than a chandelier. I guess if you have that sort of money and want one, now would be the time to make a low ball offer that would likely get a deal done. My 2 cents.
