I am trying to find the manufacturer of an alloy body recreation of a 1960 Ferrari Dino 196S VIN# 4893. Tempero is the only manufacturer that I can find that did 196S recreations. Any ideas? Thanks, Mike.

Mike, are you sure about the serialnumber, #4893??

Any additional information might also help to find out who built it. For example, where the car is today (Belgium? USA?).

The Car is titled as VIN# 4893. The car has been a US car for at least 4 years. What appears to be a manufacturers plate in the engine compartment, has fallen off. Superb build quality and accuracy.

I imagine you're aware of how funny this sounds?

Anyway, can you tell us how old the 196S coachwork appears to be? Would you say that it has been rebodied recently? Within the past 2 years? 5-10 years?

It appears to be maybe 5-7 years old. The very clean condition, lack of stone chips and dents from the inside fenders seems to indicate few miles since new. A rectangular spot with adhesive trails (glue the manuf plate?) is where the missing plate once resided. The 2.4 L V-6 is set up w a 3 x 2 webber carb config. Plexi half oval with metal screen in front covers the carbs opening. Thanks for the response, Mike.

Yes, please do. I have doubts that this car has anything in common with 4893GT, a 250 GTE.

Mike: This is what a 196SP looks like - rear engined. You gots a recreation of something else there.

Jeff, he's referring to the 196S, not the mid-engined 196SP in your photo.

I didn't know there was front engined 196. Sorry. Wrong again.

Mike, the car looks a lot like a Tempero replica to me and the one featured on their website was based around a Dino 246. I would assume, then, that the chassis number of 4893 was provided by the manufacturer and has nothing to do with 250 GTE s/n 4893GT.

So, to address your initial question, my guess is that this car was done by Tempero, as you've suggested.

Thanks Wayne. I found the Temporo site a few days ago and e-mailed them to see if they built it. They do indeed show a 2.4 L v-6 instead of the original in-line 196 motor. Thanks, Mike.
