The completion of the chassis frame has nothing to do with the final completion of the car. Two different dates. The date when the factory issued the Certificate of Origin was on 14 March 1953.
And the Italian text you listed says "sent to the coachbuilder without testing". This means that chassis and engine were completed and then sent to the coachbuilder who constructed the body, but without prior testing.

Mr. Massini, thanks a lot for clarification. I misunderstood the text due to the double translation from Italian to English and to Russian.

So was chassis with engine sent to Abarth in February and after only one month boby was completed and car was returned to Maranello for final testing? But what is date for body completing?

Yes, the Abarth "Smontabile" body was made in approx. one month. The exact date for the body completion is not known because there are no factory records for that and it is not mentioned on the build sheets plus there are no records from Abarth.

Yes, the same answer I got from Abarth.

So, Abarth spider was completed, tested and certificated for the 14 March. In this case very strange that car was firstly raced in Targa Florio, after two months from this date.

Not strange at all. The factory issued their Certificate of Origin on the 14th March 1953. Without that Certificate of Origin (NO relation to today's Certificate of Authenticity!!! do not mix up) a car cannot be road registered. On the 8th of May 1953 the car was tested by the factory. Franco Cornacchia (Scuderia Guastalla), Milan/Italy, sold it to Giulio Musitelli, son of Arrigo Musitelli, resident at Via Zambonate 62 in Bergamo, Italy (Musitelli brothers). And the license plates "BG 29262" from Bergamo were issued. The Targa Florio began on the 14th May 1953. Six days after the last test by the factory.

Boudewijn, thanks for clarification. Would you add any proof for that?

Here the very interesting image. Possible it's 0262 M with Scaglietti body in late 50th or 60th in the USA. But I'm not sure it's 0262 or other one.

Any additional info would be really interesting. Which year image was taken? Who is the man at the photo?

As I see from image car lost the big central light for that time! What had happened?

I always like to hear what cars went for back when I could have bought them (though I hadn't seen a real Ferrari back then...) Anybody remember seeing ads showing the prices when it was owned by:

    Giulio Musitelli

    Luigi Chinetti

    Gary B. Laughlin

    Lorin McMullen?

Thanks for any info. Also what does anyone think it cost to make the repro body? I am guessing $200K if a dime.

Incidentally for those with long memories, around 1959 Laughlin was Shelby's partner in building the Scaglietti bodied Corvette Italias, of which only three were made before GM cut off their supply of Corvette chassis.
