Hi Guys, I am asking about the sport exhaust..not the black tips. Anyone have this exhaust or can offer feedback what the difference is between the standard vs sport silencers? Ferrari Part Number: 70002051 Thanks! Tim
I have it and like it. It is just loud enough on open valves to give great sound but not enough to attract negative attn from cops and others. With valves closed its very civil.
Dealer told me there is no diff in sound. But another dealer also had NO clue, thought it was just different tips.
He means just the black tips as an option. That is true just tips. Look at pic above and below. Much different. Image Unavailable, Please Login
The oem sports exhaust changes the sound character, not the volume, gives a more raspy tone akin to the one of the 458 challenge car, here is a clip of how it sounded like on my car upon install, first clip is with stock cats, second clip with 200 cell race cats (recommended ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FO9PnCWIcHA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukbWqj9qvFw
I'm going Novitec....even though I have seen a Ferrari sports exhaust new for almost half the Capristo or Novitec price on EBay. New Ferrari 458 Sport Exhaust CLEARANCE Sale 70002051 | eBay
thanks for posting this pic. I called a few dealers who had these exhausts listed in inventory. I am sure I could get a new sport exhaust for $2500-ish from a dealer. Comparing this to just the capristo valve controller that would cost around $1000 installed the whole new exhaust may be the way to go.
I had this installed a few hundred miles after I bought my car - definitely a raspier tone than stock, a little louder too. I opted for it over the aftermarket systems because it kept the bypass valves operational (some aftermarket systems do too), and I give preference to OEM parts (warranty-type issues can be handled by any dealership instead of a retailer in CA or China, for example). Definitely worth the money for the increased sound quality.
Ordered....will post before and afters. BTW, you can find these collecting dust at many F-Dealers parts departments for less than 50% retail.
I had one of these systems installed on my 2011 italia, and i really like it. I did it last year, total cost was around $4k.
tips are extra. 2 diff parts. Tips and the actual cans. The actual cans are what the question was about...
+1 Mr. Eilig: black Ti tips are not available from Ferrari, they would need to be anodized or treated in that color by an aftermarket source best
Bought a second hand 458 and on the spec sheet it has 'EXA3 Sports Exhaust System'...is that the code just for the tips or does it have the sports exhaust as mentioned above? Its funny because this particular 458 does sound better than the previous ones I have had, a bit louder, more pops & farts etc..
EXA3 is just the tips in black--no change to the exhaust itself. It's sometimes described as "Sport Exhaust System", which sounds way too glorified for what it is. In other places, including in the U.S. pricing sheet, it is described as "Sport Exhaust Pipes", which is a bit more sensible. In the Ferrari Parts Bulletin, I've seen it referred to as "Black tailpipes", which is the most factual label. Here is some more info: Part Number: 281545 Description: Black tailpipes Modis OPT: EXA3 Details: The new black tailpipes have been created to accentuate the sports character of the car. A black chrome surface finish applied to the exterior of the tailpipes both underscores and enhances the sportiness of the 458 Italia. For 2015, EXA3 was a $722 option in the U.S., compared to over $5K MSRP for the OEM Sport Exhaust the OP was talking about. (Although note that the street price can be significantly less than the $5K MSRP, depending on where you buy and how much you negotiate.) Here is some more info on the OEM Sport Exhaust (spelling and grammar errors are Ferrari's): Part Number: 70002051 Description: Weight Reduction Kit Details: The coffers of the silencer are the same as in GT2 and GT3 cars, and allow a weight reduction of 4,5 Kg of the component. Thanks to this new design the sound changes and it gives the engine a more aggressive tone: enriched with harmonics lower and darker, by creating more powerful sound at all engine speeds with the open valve. The optimal mix combines reduced weight and stile and it is made by putting the muffler and the tail titanium exhaust. This combination is already knows as best seller component of 2011. This component contributes to the reduction in vehicle weight of 0,5 Kg.
Interesting info Iohead, thanks for clarifying. Is there anyway to tell if your exhaust is std or the sports exhaust by looking at it?. I am wondering if my car had one fitted later on, as it does sound different to the 3 x 458's I have had before & does feel a little quicker, could explain it, is there anyway to tell by just looking at the back boxes through the grill or something? thanks
Yes, look through the mesh and you should see Ferrari script. And the mufflers are smaller. Here is pic. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Considering this exhaust for my Speciale... Has anyone else put one on theirs? How much louder is it inside the car than the original exhaust?
