In reading through it......it appears the Ferrari was trying to pass a car (maybe the Lambo) on a two lane road and ran headlong into a motorhome. How does that even happen? The road looks straight as an arrow. Stupid.

The Swiss couple in the red Ferrari tried to overtake (the blue Lambo AND a white truck) but in the exact same moment the blue Lamborghini (with two people from Mumbai, India) also steered to the left and tried to overtake the white truck. The blue Lamborghini was pushed to the right (behind the white truck) whereas the red Ferrari crashed straight into the oncoming Camper, overturned, fell into the ditch on the right and took fire. The below link has some incredible pix immediately before the crash.
Of note also that the white solid safety center line must not be crossed and overtaking is strictly prohibited here.

Sad for all involved. Doesn't seem like anyone was going fast, just extremely poor decisions.

I thought all the driving in the video above by the people in the sports cars was very poor, they were all driving like idiots.

A bizarre accident that is the sum of several imprudences. Unfortunately, it took two lives.

true, I have been apart of a group that used radios so they could tell each other if they thought a blind turn was clear, hell no!

Fast is relative. They were on a narrow crowded road. Bad place for what they were doing to start with and completely blew off conditions. Some died as a result but I feel bad for the bystanders who may be very bad off too. Organizers should be strung up on a nearby tree.

I disagree if the organizers gave a safety briefing and gave some rules of the road. The FCA type rallies where I've seen people do stupid things they did 100% on their own.

It was a piss poor road and they chose it. Also, like you I have been on those trips and if properly conducted you might get one or two being stupid. The only car in that film being smart was the guy with the camera. Control was not being exercised or there wouldn't have been so many idiots.

Briefings only go so far. They help keeping the smart people smart. Throwing a few outliers out gets the attention of others. If you put a bunch of strangers together in a for profit event this is a highly likely outcome.

I've seen the opposite. Usually the most aggressive have enough experience they push it, but don't race or do track days, so using the rally as an inappropriate outlet.

We can disagree, but I don't think the problems are as much the organizers, roads, or inexperienced drivers. The #1 problem is experienced and good enough drivers to be dangerous, but driving this way on the street and not track. To draw another comparison, they say 500 is the danger zone for flight hours, not 50. Just enough confidence and experience to push it with your guard down.

    maybe.

    bad judgement all round though.
been on plenty of rallies in italy, and the rules are somewhat relaxed, but you have to behave correctly !

There were so many things wrong here. I can't comment on their drive orientation, and we only saw a short section of the road but I didn't see a problem with it.

However, the drivers of all the cars in the video were driving recklessly. They are passing in a no passing zone, they drive up against a box truck so they have no visibility of the oncoming traffic, it appears that the yellow car forced a motorcyclist to the far right as he passed the truck, the guy in the Lambo doesn't check his mirror, and the deceased driver is trying to pass two vehicles. Meanwhile the idiot in the 296 was about to try a double pass.

If I witnessed that kind of driving, I would have been on the phone to the State Police. I wonder what happened to the poor guy in the truck.
