Today I started the process of sending my car back to Italy to the new Ferrari Factory restoration center. I decided not to get an additional car but rather have mine restored back to 100% factory correctness. I was able to get in contact with Shannon at FNA who requested an email of want I wanted done to the car.

In an effort to make this thread as complete as possible for all, I will be posting all the pic's, emails and documents that I get during the process so in case others want to follow suit, they can.

The car will also be certified with Ferrari.

I am very excited to get this done.

I called FNA and spoke with Shannon about the Classic Restoration Facility at Ferrari.

This was the initial contact email I sent her......

Subject: Contact information and factory restoration request

    Good Morning Shannon,

    Here is my contact information.

    Matt XXXXXX
    XXXXXX XXXXXXX XXXXX,
    Valencia, Ca 91355

    home XXX.XXX.XXXX
    cell XXX.XXX.XXXX

I would like to have the factory restore the car back to factory freshness and correctness.

The car is a 1983 Ferrari 308 GTS QV. VIN is ZFFMA13A3D0045563. I purchased the car from Ferrari of Beverly Hills in July of 2004

The exterior is in excellent condition. I am in need of having the suspension (bushings, shocks, springs, etc) redone and the interior (seats, doors, carpet, center console, switches) completely redone back to how it left the factory. I would also like to get the car certified by Ferrari as well as repair and replace anything else that is needed or not factory correct.

    Thank you.

    Matt XXXXX

EDIT: I edited her email address so she does not get spammed

Any idea what amount of coin this is going to cost?? How much to ship the car there and back?

I don't know but I imagine it will be a lot.

She was going to reply to my email with document and picture requests and forward it to the factory. They will then contact me back and set up shipping, costs, time etc.etc.

I will post everything. Pic's, costs, forms etc, etc UNLESS FNA says not to.

This is very interesting as a friend today got a survey from Ferrari Italy which implied they were looking very seriously at both restoration and sales of classics

    I got the same survey.

They have a new restoration facility now but are looking at selling cars as well.

I have been working on this for a couple of weeks already.

When I got the email last night, I thought it was about my request and not just a survey.

I got that surevy too, and just completed it this morning.

Wondered what that was all about... "Wondered too, what a factory refurbished/certified GT4 might sell for".

Or if it'd even be worth it!

    Hmmmmmm

Being that the car does not need a complete restoration, I would think that it would not be more then the 40K I paid for it.

    These figures are guesses.....

I'd figure 10k for the interior (seats, carpet center console, door carpet, door leather, rear fabric by the window, targa top fabric, a couple of switches)

I'd figure about 5k for suspension ( shocks, bushings, brakes, misc parts)

another 2K in in engine work (airpump pully thingy, plugs, plug wires and fluids)

another 2-3k in might as wells.

another 3k in body work (front repaint, any rust they might find, shield replacement to protect the cats, undercoating paint.)

and what ever the cost is to ship it there and get the cert.

Your interior will be twice what you allowed, the leather pieces alone, without labor, from Ferrari is over $12,000.00.

Suspension is normally $2,000 a corner.

The plug wires alone are over $500.00.

    You need to dig deeper...

    ALOT DEEPER!

I was estimating the prices based on an estimate I got from the local dealer here and I added about 10% for the factory markup.

Once Shannon emails me back, and I reply and then I get the price from the factory, I will post it.

Another member sent me a pm and they had a 208GTB, complete resto with paint done top notch in the area (not the factory) for about 27.5k so I think I am on the mark but who knows

Wow...did you really do that? You sent a ferrari to FERRARI to restore...without knowing the cost? You are my hero...

Now factor in 5000$ shipping....poor exchange rates...and full factory parts prices.

You didn't really do this, did you?

Why not just buy a perfect 308 for 50k$ or so???

I have not sent it yet. I am in the process of getting the ball rolling.

    It's not about buying a perfect 308, it's about MY 308.

Well we put a new interior in a 328GTS with factory leather 3 years ago, the leather alone was $12k. I hope I am wrong and I admire what you are doing, but I suspect the premium for a factory restoration would be more like 25-50%.

Hey, wait and see what the math is, I would love to be wrong!

Yes, 40k seems low based upon the insane prices I pay on the most mundane things for my Mondial. I hope Matt is right, though.
