I thought I read a long time ago about the Fabspeed F8 muffler delete but I can't find the thread/posts. Has anyone done this? Should not affect the ECU and cause issues I would think but my service advisor at my Ferrari dealer said the F8 is very sensitive and this could affect how the car runs at lower rpm's with valves closed and less restriction with no muffler. Right now stock my F8 runs perfect. I am just trying to get a little bit of more exhaust sound and not mess with cats, gif and thus ecu running since I have full warranty for 2.5 more years.. If anyone has done this and has experience with the sound difference and how the car runs with the muffler delete please let me know. Fabspeed wants $1800 for these 2 short small pipes. I have an exhaust fab place that can do this for a lot less. $1800 is crazy!! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Did your 488 have a controller for valves or did you just unplug them? Were there any exhaust mods to your 488? Is the F8 really that much quieter because of the particulate filter?
I haven't owned F8, but IMO this is a resounding yes. 488 actually sounded great to my ears even from 458, did it scream at upper rev band no, but still fantastic rolling thunder sound from 0-85%+ that I feel is under appreciated by most F8 watching it drive by during the demo drives when it was being released, and as a passenger, a lot more muffled due to GPF.. that deep sonorous angry tone from 488 was missing or lacking But, in exchange you get the killer looks that the F8 has
@Viperjoe did this X pipe and said it didn’t help very much at all. You can send him a PM. I passed on it after speaking with him.
Thanks...yeah for $1800 then probably 2 maybe 3hrs to install would be another $600 or so in labor...this little pipe for all in $2400 is not worth it...zero benefits and value it seems. This little pipe is worth half of what Fabspeed is asking for it and that would still be a little too much to me.
On my 488 I just unplugged the valves...pluged the vacuum hose ends and valve ends and zip tied the hoses up. Car sounded better easy cheap fix for some sound. On the 488 the exhaust vales are either open or closed and you can hear this difference and it drove me crazy. On the F8 the exhaust valves are controlled by the ECU and open at variable degrees from cracked open...half way to open and all in between. Yes the F8 is a lot quieter than the 488. This is due to the way the vales worked with the muffler and the GPF filters. The F8 looks so good, drives extremely great...all it needs is some more sound to complete the Ferrari experience. Problem is everything is ECU controlled and my car has full warranty.
What I don't like (488) is when you cold start it and it's loud for literally two seconds and goes quiet. I know unplugging the valves would fix this. At least in my Huracan on cold start it would be loud until the car idled down (warmed up) which was 30-60 seconds or so. Ferrari should have programmed it like that.
Never noticed cold start like that on my 488.... it was loud on cold start idle for at least 30-45 sec it seemed. Ferrari and Lambo probably have a different cold start sequence though. Cold start air injection is more of an emissions thing to warm up the cats....nothing to do with performance.
The F8 is pretty quick to idle down… probably about 15-30 seconds at most… whereas my Porsche takes closer to a minute, I’d say. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
does f8 have vacuum controlled flaps like 488? i plugged mine on 488 and happy with sound. looking at a f8 and want to do the same
Nope. They’re electronic. That’s one of the problems with modding exhaust successfully Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Don’t bother because I’ve got the Forza controller on mine and it doesn’t sound great. Not at all like the 488 I had with the valves opened. Not even close. Not even the same sport.
R1 Motorsport cat back sport exhaust on my 992. Sounds great. No CEL of course. It’s a Porsche. Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Change anything on the F8's exhaust and say goodbye to your warranty. And since 488/F8 have had a higher than normal failure rate, consider a $30,000 repair bill to replace a single turbo. I had such a failure (or so they say) !!!!!
We have always had absolutely phenomenal luck with all of the Novitec products for the F8. Yes, these cars are highly sensitive, but if they are done correctly, with the correct products they are really rather trouble free
Trust me, we ALL REALLY WANT to believe you and believe that. But no one has really had the systems installed for any real length of time or miles yet. So we can't really know if it's good or causing damage or wear or otherwise.... but I'm ready to do something by March of 26 when my warranty is up. I'm hoping by then, we will know if something works or something will be invented by then.
8,000 miles here. Changed on day one. A few CEL’s early on but it was me learning the start up procedure. Warranty issue taken care of and also extended the warranty. Not looking to be drawn out here but it’s not an absolute that you’ll have problems or void the warranty. I mean really….even if those threats had some level of potential, as much as you spend on these cars why wouldn’t you get them exactly how you want them? I can’t imagine buying a $300k+ car and not being fully satisfied. But then again it’d make the forums less interesting I guess. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I have done it, Fabspeed F8 Center Muffler Bypass X-Pipe. Exhaust sound about 10% better. Cold start is little louder. In regard to prices: I paid around $1500 I have installed at my local Ferrari dealer. Plus no warranty issues. Believe me I won't touch my Fcars if there are any warranty or overall issues with the car. I had a long talk with my Ferrari master tech/warranty administrator and he noted this is only option if you care of warranty and not messing with car components (exhaust, ecu, engine, cats, gpf, turbo, etc.). More info is here from @Viperjoe https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/fabspeed-center-muffler-bypass-x-pipe-review.674897/ Hope it helps!! Go for it. Period.
Yes thanks…you’re better with search function on this forum than me! I’d buy this from Fabspeed but the value is horrible with very little benefit. What’s interesting is there is a company that makes a pipe like this for Jeep 392 Hemi exhaust that removes the resonator. Looks a lot like this Fabspeed pipe just slightly more material for $400.
Go for it if they can match the quality, etc. $400 is a lottt cheaper. I didn't buy it from Fabspeed though. Time to time there is someone selling on EBay around 800-1000 bucks.. Keep us posted!!
It's not a case of 'how we want them', it's a case of damaging a 300k-400k+ car and causing 40,50k+ in repairs -- Thjatd be like just burning the 350k-- unless you're whistlindiesel and just buying it to ruin it.... I don't have that kind of mind or money.
