So as I’m looking for my next Ferrari, I started off seeking a 488 as I felt it was the most bang for the buck, most of what the F8 offers for substantially less money. F8 Tributo pricing has dropped a little recently though so now exceptional cars can be found for slightly over sticker rather than way over sticker. Still there remains approximately 100k difference between the 2 models for an exceptional example.

I would like to hear some opinions from the group as far as “worth it” or “not worth it to me”.

It all depends on what value is put on money.
The F8 is superior (it has more power, the smaller steering wheel is also an improvement, and as the newer car, it's globally improved); whether it's worth 100K depends on the money's value more than on the respective cars qualities.
If one is able to spend 100K without noticing it, he has to go for the F8; if 100K is a significant amount of money, the question is (IMHO), what else could one do with these 100K and would one prefer to get a 488 and simultaneously do that, or just get an F8...
When I considered replacing my 488 by a new F8, the difference was about 150K - I had no doubt the F8 would have been an upgrade, but eventually I elected to keep the 488, add a 550 and keep some spare money.

Having had/have both, (‘17 488 GTB, ‘22 F8T), I’d vote for the 488. Similar power, still good/new looking, tech is fine. I shouldn’t have sold mine. Love my F8 but worth saving $100k+ for the 488.

I vote for the F8 because I have one and I’m one of those people that think just because I have it, that it’s the best and everyone with anything else or less is just wrong.

However, more seriously, the extra power, handling, engineering and tech are definitely a big plus but I’m a cosmetic and appearance minded car guy and I just LOVE the style and looks of the F8 over the 488 and any other exotic for that matter so for me, it is worth it. As for the price difference, I believe the F8 will do quite well over time being the last and most powerful mid V8 whereas the 488 may decline still being kind of stuck in the middle of the 458 and F8.

I have owned a 458 and it was spectacular. Tell me more about why you say “488 no”

If you enjoy the attributes of an engine that is turbo charged, skip the 488 and go right to the F8

I honestly really enjoyed the attributes of the 458, being able to push the car to 9k rpm was amazing. The car having enough power but not so much that you’re never using it. I found power delivery all all RPM far superior to modem Porsche GT engines. The steering feel on the 458 wasn’t great but so many other things were good enough that I didn’t mind.

Before everyone says go buy another 458, I would rather not. The styling of the 458 while beautiful is finally starting to look older to me. I do think the 488 looks a little more modern. I do think the F8 looks very good. There are many small details about the F8 that you have to get up close and personal with the car to notice. These really add up once you take them all in. The F8 also has an easier to use infotainment without going full, haptic touch modern. Although the 458 was my favorite car that I have ever owned, I would rather go forward them backwards, and I only plan on keeping this car less than a year until 296 comes in.

There is a considerable difference, I’ve recently found out. I just drove a 488 for the first time and it’s instantly noticeable. And I’m not a race driver— I’m an idiot owner and even I felt it’s very different… it’s not just the 44 HP difference, it’s all about how it makes it’s power, gets it to the road and the feel… and I found it to be significant…. Like really significant.

It depends what you want. Sure the F8 performance is higher than the 488, but the gap is smaller than it is with the performance gains in the 488 over the 458.

If you want the best, it is the F8, but the 488 is awesome and less money. Only you know what is best for you.

Totally agree with this. I dont think ( my opinion) the F8 is 150k better than the 488. If the delta was 50-75k yes , drive both and then decide. The 488 engine sound is way ,way better especially with the valves permanently opened. And yes I’ve had both the 488s and now the F8s. I am beyond disappointed with the engine sound on the F8s with the new GPF BS.

Then I think the 488 is a better deal - it's not that far from the F8, and I doubt one year from now the price difference will still be 100k: the F8 will become old news and will get closer to the 488.
The perfomance gap between the 488 and 458 is similar (actually a little lower) to the one you'll get between the 296 and 488.
