I did Capristo value controller and it worked fine. Helped the sound a little. But only a little.
Ive had alot of loud cars. They were pretty fast too. But when i drove the f8 spiritedly it made my eyeballs spin, and when you dial back the electronics you are fully aware the car can spit you into the scenery. The car drives like it has rabies in race mode and ct off, its a very immediate and engaging drivers car. Its also around 100 dB outside (so its not quiet by any measure) and the hot tube brings in exhaust noise not intake noise, which is the first time ive experienced that (usually the tube comes off the intake manifold and i hate those). Stepped out of that car into my brand new tuned m3 with an exhaust and it felt like a piece of crap. Lol. Very few cars are as engaging as a mid engine ferrari and driven hard the f8 can make the hairs on my neck stand up. Did i wish it was louder?.. probably but theres something to be said about not letting cops know from a mile away that youre driving a rocket ship and being able to cruise around with no drone. I read alot of posts on F chat discrediting the F8 like its a tesla because of the turbos and gpf but for someone like me who is a speed addict and likes flappy paddle cars the f8 is kind of in a league of its own at 300k. Mclarens would be the only copmetitor and i dont like the big turbo lag and aside from the anectodal “i didnt have a problem with my mclaren” those cars are a POS.
IPE has a decent sounding exhaust IMO. And it's one that I've seen with proper heat shielding all over their unit. One option is the back muffler only while the other option is the full downpipes including sport cats and GPF delete. The latter option does require a remap of ECU but it can reach 125 decibels on the meter! For a turbo car, that is impressive! That said, I won't be swapping exhausts for at least a few thousand miles to make sure I give the engine a good enough shakedown. As previously stated above, the F8 isn't loud but it's still a hell of a drive when you push it! I prefer the F8 over the base 458 or the 488 as well.
So, here is a pic of the exhaust flap. I can almost reach it. I am wondering if there is any downside by keeping it open mechanically. I'm thinking maybe my exhaust guy can create a removable mechanical steel insert that can go into that pipe, and prevent the flap from closing... If that works, no need for electronically messing with the flap control. And it can be removed when needed. Image Unavailable, Please Login
If there is a mismatch between the ECU commanded valve position and actual valve position, you will get a CEL
The valves have electrically controlled actuators commanded by the ECU, so I’d guess the valve position is sensed electrically as well.
Question for those that unplugged the bypass valves. How long did it take before the ECU threw a CEL (in miles, minutes, hours, number of restarts, whatever)?
I used Capristo valve controller - No CEL (at least up until I sold it). Can't pin them open like 488 or 458.
Prior to delivery of my F8 last month (2022 Tributo), I fully anticipated the major disappointment that the exhaust would present. I even though that upon delivery I would sell the car and switch marques (sacrilege I know). While I certainly admit that the F8's exhaust is not as robust sounding as my 488 GTB, it's actually pretty decent. While I would prefer a bit more sound, as many others have stated, I have no desire to spend $$,$$$ for an aftermarket exhaust system, and hence in doing so void the car's warranty. In speaking with two F8 Spider owners recently, both were highly disappointed in the exhaust note to the point of considering action (sell the car, replace the exhaust system, etc.). So here's the question. Is it possible that the exhaust sound in the Tributo's cabin is more robust because the sound/hot-tube isn't present in the Spider? And might the reason for that be because the retractable hardtop and its peripherals occupy the space where the sound/hot-tube would otherwise be located? Thoughts, confirmation, and opinions welcomed.
Great question Joe. I would love to know the answer too because the spider sound is not great or even good in that department.
I stated several months ago that I was happy with the sound of my 2022 Tributo, especially after reading all of the complaints. I continue to be satisfied and wondered if some improvement had been made to 2022 models to enhance the sound. The thoughts on the coupe and spider sounding different and the reason cited are an interesting perspective. BTW it’s hard to recall but I think the sound is similar to a previously owned Scuderia and also a 430 with Ferrari sport exhaust. I would not want it any louder and I’m enjoying the sound on downshifts.
I too have no problems with the sound of my F8. Maybe it’s just me but the sound is loud enough without being obnoxious. The car maintains a certain elegance and sophistication. There are so many cars out there that you can hear coming from 2 streets away. This is a half million dollar Ferrari not a Mustang or a Subaru. There is no drone or overwhelming noise in the cabin. No need in my opinion to announce the car to the world at every red light. I have had many compliments on the exhaust note. Typically I’m told it’s enough without being too over the top. To me it’s melodious. The F8 is the total package.
I was actually wondering the same thing. I was fully expecting to be very disappointed with the sound of my 2022 F8 Spider but it hasn't been that bad. Obviously not as sonorous as my 458 Italia was and my Evo Spyder is but it is a pleasant sound nonetheless. Overall, the F8 is a great experience.
That’s funny as my 22 F8 does sound a bit different than the 21 spider we test drove. Is there a chance that something was changed? I asked my dealer and they said no but it seems that others may be noticing this as well.
+1 After reading/hearing/watching so many reviews on the F8 I was expecting to be thoroughly disappointed by the sound of my car. I am happy to report that I have been enjoying it immensely with no desire to change it, and this is coming from someone that has modified every single car I have owned. Could it have a bit more volume? Sure, but so could ANY new car for sale today. Of course it doesn't have an NA howl, but no one is expecting it to.
I’m thinking the coupes may sound better than the spiders with the top down. Maybe it’s a mental thing for me because now that I have a Portofino which sounds fantastic the F8s is just dull. I knew I should not have bought that damn Porto. First world problems, I know.
Hi. Has anyone here tried using the fabspeed sports cats for the f8 and keeping the stock exhaust? Curious the improvement to the exhaust note this way. Fabspeed also guarantee no CEL with their sports cats
Yea. I just really wanna avoid any CEL. Perhaps maybe the fabspeed HFC and novitec w flap regulation might be an option. At least (I think) with the tectronic there should be no CEL
