Hi, I got these figures from the net and am surprised that on paper there is not much difference in the cars yet reading reviews they say that the f430 is allot faster than a 360?

    f430
    0-60 mph: 4.0 sec
    0-100 mph: 10.0 sec
    Quarter Mile: 12.4 sec @ 115 mph

    360
    0-60 mph: 4.3 s
    0-100 mph: 9.8 s
    0-1/4 mile : 12.6 s @ 114 mph

Agreed, those figures dont give the full pictures, in gear acceleration there is no comparison the 430 having much better mid range torque.

Not sure if I believe these figures. Certainly doesn't feel like that from the drivers seat.

Don't forget not just outright power either but the entire power band and points at which the power is generated and also the torque on offer. The 360 is thinner on torque and generates its power higher up the rev range. One thing for sure, the power to weight ratio's for the kerb weight of the vehicle is what you should be looking at too. After that the other notable difference is that the f430 came with a much more polished chassis setup. Also a Electronic differential (E-Diff) and a whole raft of other electronic aids including improved stability control under heavy braking which helps most drivers to feel more confident and drive their cars faster. You can ofcourse turn these aids off if your a more experienced track day veteran and still enjoy the better set-up chassis and improve power to weight out of the box.

Overall both cars use many of the same suspension components, same shock absorbers, same upper and lower wishbones, different tyres, spring rates and roll bars and geometry all help to tune to the f430 to where the 360 should have been at launch. The 430 also had some improved torsional ridigity by some additional chassis bracing too which improves chassis control during hard cornering.

Both are still too softly sprung if you really want to give it the beans, if so consider hunting out the CS or Scud or going down the route of spending time improving the basics yourself (time consuming but fun). Both can be tuned to be substantially better on the track at some compromise in ride quality. All depends on what you want out of your car really...

The figures for the 360 are reasonable, but the 430's are a bit off. An F430 should run a high 11 - low 12 second quarter (with good traction) and trap in the 119 -121 mph range. The 0 - 100 mph time should be in the mid 8 second range, and the 0 - 60 time in the upper 3's. Of course, acceleration times depend greatly on traction. Trap speed, however, is typically less affected by traction conditions.

It's just a matter of power to weight ratios...the 430 is about 200 lbs heavier, but it has over 80 more hp and nearly 70 more lb-ft. of torque.
