These two cars can be had for roughly the same money. Two very different applications of the same idea.

    Which do you choose?

Why not throw a scud, and perhaps a CS into the question.

I have owned a 360 manual spider and a 430 manual coupe, and a 458 spider. There are great manual cars, but Ferrari's are not among them. They may be more driver engagement, (and I am an old gearshift fan), and for some that is enough. I assume you are talking about regular road driving, and besides the fact that the leap from the 430 to the 458 was larger than the leap from the 360 to the 430, what I have found it the 458 is a better car to drive than the 430 when you are not pushing it as well as when you are not. Not sure OP what criteria you were considering when making this post.

hard to justify a 430 over a 458. 458 is the last of an era. the 430 f1 is a great car, in my opinion so much so that i dont justify the stick premium. for the 360, stick is the only way to go.

458 is such a monumental leap forward in every single aspect and has almost zero draw backs.

    Plus... The 458 looks world's better than a 430 I know that's subjective... But...

    458 all day every day.

agree 430s are great value at 125k....at 180k its only worth it if the stick means that much...but again id do a 355 stick and 458 or 430 f1

“Which do you choose” is only properly answered if we know what we are choosing it for.

I own a gated 430 spider, so I am biased. My only experience of a 458 is reviewing it for a week or so when they were quite new.

A 458 is a better car for sure. But a gated 430 is more fun, at real world speeds, on roads with speed limits. The 458 is faster, more secure, rides better, sounds better (arguably), more comfortable, more modern, more everything.

I use my gated 430 for spirited weekend drives in good weather on country lanes, and it’s more fun than a 458 on those drives. A lot more fun than a 488. On such roads, a 458 is a step towards the “blink and you miss the drive” efficiency of a 488.

On track, or if you have roads you can drive flat out on, 458, regardless of the transmission. Making a swift exit from a tight country lane curve in second at 3500 rpm? Gated 430.

I review high performance cars as part of my job, and the gated 430 is for me the perfect compromise between old (gated, proper sensations and steering, fun at relatively low speeds) and new (fast, comfortable, well appointed). And did I mention, it has a Ferrari gated transmission?

Offer me a similar 458 Spider to my gated 430, no money either way, and I would say no, for my purposes.

If I had to drive it every day, or lots of days, or spend time in urban areas, or take it long distances frequently, or had access to the Nurburgring daily - 458.

Agree quite a bit... and here is the crazy thing... you don't even need to spend 125k for a 430 you can spend a pretty decent amount less and still get a pretty good one.

I agree Id take a 355 stick and get a 458 coupe for the price of some of the dreamers on 430 sticks.

Yes 90k gets u a rough 430, 120 for a rock solid one, and 140k a collector car. Add 40k for a stick maybe more for low mile collector car. 200k buys u a lot of sick cars today.

Rough at 90k... I’d say high mileage but not necessarily rough!
Agree 200k gets u lots nowadays but depending on what one go for I’d think a manual 430 should old value better than a huracan

The stick will retain its value better long term IMHO, but for a better driving experience 458 hands down. You'd have to pry my 360 stick from my hands. the rub with the 458 is even without a turbo... long term it's just another paddle shift car. It will depreciate.

I don't understand these types of comparisons. Two completely different cars. Drive em and buy the one you like.

Bought a single a 8k mile spider in red for 104 about a week ago. It was a 2008. Serviced and tired up. Zero paint work 2 owner. Daytona's and sheilds.

Funny how markets can be so different. In the UK my rhd 430 manual is worth the same as it is here and in the UK I could swap it for a 458. Here where I live the cheapest 458 is a 140k+ more than my manual 430 is worth. Go figure.
