This is a quick DIY on how to illuminate your engine bay with LED lighting. I bought a cheap LED in metal bar backed lighting strip and 12v LED RF remote / dinner from ebay for almost nothing. The rest is just a little work.

    This is for a 2006 F430 Spider.

    1. Buy led strip embedded in metal square rod from ebay. [ example: 2*50cm warm white waterproof SMD5050 Rigid LED Strip light Cabinet Light Bar 12V ] $15
    2. Buy 12v LED RF Dinner module from ebay $7 from hong kong inc shipping, or $10 from a domestic USA supplier. Lets just call that FREE [ Wireless Remote LED Strip Single Color Light Dimmer Controller Adjust DC 12V-24V ] $6-10
    3. Remove forward engine lid drip bar. Its held on by 3x allen bolts.
    4. Drill two holes to mount LED Bar
    5. Mount bar
    6. Remove passenger side engine bay covers 2x
    7. Access parking light wires from harness that runs from outside lights. The parking light wires are:
+12v: is Yellow with black stripe
Ground : Go with a chassis ground (any tail light mounting post) or the black wire in the harness.
    8. Wire the RF LED dinner box inline. Simple wiring, just 12v and ground IN and 12v and ground OUT

Here is a video of it working:

It was just 2x wires, so I did not think to take a snap. I will take a photo the next time the side panel is off.

I used these at a local car show tonight, very nice effect.

    I freakin' love it!

Please show us some photos, or better explain, where you spliced into the parking lights and where you ran the wires!

I want to do this asap!

Thanks Trent. reason I ask is I also have a remote to control the valves and it requires a 12v supply, I thought I may be able to use your power source for both modifications (led + remote valve control).

Wow Trent! Those LED's do a great job of illuminating the engine bay without being overbearing. Great job.

    Hello all,

Andrew from Exoticare - new Forum sponsor.

We actually already have a pre-packaged kit available for this modification.
    Works for 360, F430, 458 Coupe, Enzo.

A very low profile, discreet LED kit - Strips are almost invisible when off. Very Subtle lighting effect that WOW's at all the shows, or when your car is parked at night at the local restaurant.

Low voltage, does not drain very much from the battery when the car is left un-attended.

    Wireless remote included.

Will require some professional installation to run the wires, but recommended to run to constant 12Volt source - then the lights can be turned on whenever you like, even when the car is off! (as it's a low draw from battery power, can be left on for days!)

Available online at our online store

I would also like to see a photo of the kit before purchasing one.

Do you have install instructions as well?

Where do you connect this kit to the 12v? I'd love to do as you suggest....connect to a constant on 12v. Do you know how to do this?

Please tell us more about your kit...looks very appealing to me!

Photo attached of the LED Kit,

can use one or both of the LED strips depending on the level of brightness you want to achieve. You don't want it too bright as it could be distracting if on while driving.

As the wiring will differ from car to car - you will want to find a hot positive that's on while the car is off - can be the starter lead, or along the main power supply. Then a solid ground.

Most installer familiar with the ferrari should be able to find the best taps.

As for the strips, for the 360/F430 Coupes a light on either side of the black matrix of the glass is a good location.

As for All 458 and 360/F430 spider the top of the glass or below the black matrix is an excellent location.

You want to install the best location for shining light when the glass cover is closed.

All parts are made in USA with full warranty.

PM for further details - Thanks

Trent, how did you mount the bar? Adhesive? Screws (and if so, did it go through bar or use clips?)? I'd like to try a red bar (or maybe a bar that has red and white). Thanks!

    KAPOW!

Completed this mod today! WOW! It looks awesome....not "ricey" like others have said!

I used the license plate light wire as my 12v source. Real simple to tap into! Only downside is I cannot leave the light on at car shows.

I'd sure like to find a hot wire somewhere in the engine compartment if anyone has suggestions???

All I can say is...do it! Looks incredible going down the street at night!

    You will not be disappointed!

That kit even looks better than what I installed! I strongly suggest anyone get this kit as opposed to piecing it together like I did.

Exotic.....find us a 12v hot wire in the engine compartment...please!!!

Just run it to your battery, it's not that difficult. I ran it back for my backup camera and it took me 15 minutes. Now I'll use that line to tap into for the led lights

Can you please explain to me how you got this wire through the firewall and back to the engine compartment?

    Thanks a million!
