Anyone Recs for bumper protectors for f430 spider….Fabspeed?, sliplo?, scrapearmor? Ease of install? and looks? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I have the Fabspeed one. The kit includes some very nice carbon fiber pieces and four metal scrape guards/bolts that replace the bolts in the bumper. Until I had my PPF redone on my bumper I had the carbon pieces installed. Now I just have the metal guards/bolts installed. Don't want to Jinx myself but the bolts are really all the kit needs. When you are going to scrap coming in and out of a driveway or a speed bump at an angle the metal pieces are all you need as they are designed to take a hit and push the bumper up and out of the way. The carbon does look nice though.
We offer these at Ricambi America: https://www.ricambiamerica.com/skd-430-pe-f430-skid-plates-in-polyethylene.html
Made my own ! Wasn't impressed by anything commercially available - and here's why...... Most of these tend to be relatively thick blocks attached to localised areas. The problem there is you aren't so much as protecting the underside of your Bumper, but more adding a protrusion that is not only going to reduce the already less than generous ground clearance, but more likely than not, going to run the risk of catching the obstruction/road/crub rather than gliding over. As these things tend to be bolt on - meaning holes need to be drilled in your thin flimsy bumper - catch it wrong and the damage will be serious. More so than simply getting a scuff ! Which lead me down this path...........................What you actually need is a "Scuff Guard". Something that offers low profile protection to the majority of the underside of the front Bumper, and perform the job of a sacrificial layer. I had my Bumper removed anyway, so made up a template of what I needed. I then order the material I needed, in this case 1.5mm ABS Plastic Sheet. Fortunately just down the road form me is a Waterjet cutting business, so popped down to them with the template and material. Left it with them and few days later received an e-mail with CAD drawing attached for my approval. I okayed it, and a day later was contacted to come and collect. The results were perfect ! For attaching to the Bumper there was no way I was using bolts or screws, so the best option was 3M VHB Tape. Fortunately you can get this in wide enough widths to cove the whole area of the Scuff Plate. The VHB Tape had a thickness of o.80, which added to the thickness of the ABS Sheet gave a total of 2.3mm (approx 3/32" or 0.09"). At this thickness it was still flexible enough to conform to the shape of the underside of the Bumper. And not only that but minimal impact on reducing ground clearance. It's worth mentioning at this point I had made the decision to make the Scuff Plates in two pieces (per side). This was for the following reasons: 1) Due to the "boomerang" shape it would have required too larger size of material. 2) If one part gets damaged it's simpler to remove the half and replace with a fresh one than removing the whole thing. 3) Easier to work with - in as much as applying the VHB Tape and fitting it (not having this huge boomerang flapping around) Did it work ? Hell yes ! I first did this back in 2019 prior to going on a 3000 mile road trip through Europe and round northern Italy. As Italian roads can be a bit, er, less than billiard table smooth, I was interested to see how they faired. Oh yes, there was ground contact on many occasions ! And how did they fair ? They did the job exactly as intended. Offering scuff protection and a sacrificial layer than can be replaced.
