Thank you for posting. A very nice video and I like how Doug is saying several times "it's so good" and that he drove several F430 cars for reviews, and shifting in this car "really works well, it feels factory, you hear click-clack as it goes into gear" etc The title made me think it is a review of a manual swap, but in fact it is a review of a Ferrari F430 which just happened to have a manual swap (very little about the swap itself), but still worth watching. BTW, I don't know if Doug even knows who made the kit for this car (I did not notice the name of the kit provider being mentioned) and I don't know how the car ended up in his hands, but it's Cambio Manuale LLC (Formerly Dr S) kit.
Agreed, it is a great review. My only wish is they showed the actual shifting while he was driving it.
It was a good watch. One thing that bothered him (the glove box button), was changed for the later models. I can open my glovebox without the key in. The other ones are quite annoying to insert a key for every time. As he mentioned, I typically use the cable open for the trunk pop. I don't know who had this car up for bid, but it was pretty dusty Could have used a good clean As much as I enjoy watching some of his reviews, I feel he holds back some punches. He usually starts by saying the car is on the auction site which leads me to believe he probably doesn't want to say anything to negatively affect the sale value. Well, maybe not for the F430 as it's truly amazing
If Chris Harris made a comment about the swap I'd listen.. other Toobers I could give two hoots about their opinion..
My favorite review of the F430 is Jeremy Clarkson. He loved the car..called it perfect..and he was/is right. I'll watch the Doug review later. I honestly don't mind his stuff. The exaggerated hand movements are a bit distracting tho.
BTW, the kit comes with plugs to cover the holes left after the shift paddles got removed, and with an option to make the gear number display blacked out, not sure why it was not done to the car being reviewed.
Bombing this thread, if anyone is open to a group buy for a CF steering shroud for converted cars, I'm still hopeful we can pull one off! As for the vid, the 'quirks' got too much air time, but I do wholeheartedly agree with his comments about how the F430 is pretty much the perfect Ferrari in terms of having it all.
Isn't that a spider/coupe difference? Also, doesn't the AC OFF button turn off the compressor? Old school? e-Differential, ASR, ABS, VVT, variable inlet... Reliability? If they aren't already as unreliable as the 348/355, give them a few more years. Roof issues, CAN Bus issues, instrument panel issues, window issues, doorlock issues, alarm issues, F1 issues, no start issues...
Of course it does The notion that the 'OFF button is a non functional leftover' is preposterous, he didn't even look in the manual, hence 'too much air time (inaccurately) on 'quirks' Image Unavailable, Please Login
That's my biggest gripe. I want to turn the compressor off but still enjoy ambient temp or heat like most vehicles allow you to do. I'm not exactly sure what happens to switch off the heat as well unless it disables the mixing valve to only ambient. I wonder if there's some fancy rewiring we could figure out to make off only control the compressor.
Really? I pretty much always have the OFF depressed and set the fan for air flow and temp to have air traveling through the vents, and I think I get warm air if I'm top down on a cool day if i raise the temp I'll have to check next time
Might be warm but not hot if it's cold outside. At least not mine. Admittedly though, I have weird blending door issues that I need to address with a teardown.
Well, since the air was warm, I didn't do too much investigating. I should have my bumper back on this weekend, and it's going to be cool-cold, I will see if I can check it out and let you know.
OK Doug just sold me but that car is gone. I was looking for something 100K ish, able to put on miles , manual , and convertible. I would prefer ceramic brakes just because. Possibly half the miles. So 2008 or 09 or find a ceramic brake optioned earlier car. Add 50K ? Plus 15K for the kit. Previously looking at Californias up to 100K as a "driver". I prefer a mid engined Ferrari. Plus I believe the 430 is more reliable ???? Found this conversion company; https://gatedconversion.com/ As a former aircraft mechanic I think I can do it myself. Unfortunately I need to sell a few of my collection . Its incredibly hard to do that. Courage !
It didn't sell. It says "Bid to 98,000" which means it did not hit reserve. Look for it to be relisted or check BAT, it may wind up there.
Tens of DIY people have done it with our kits, with your credentials I don't think you will have any problems
I'm not sure if George ie @modificator is allowed to confirm that due to FChat Rules so I will answer for him YES one and the same.
And the car which was reviewed had our kit installed (even though it was never mentioned by Doug, maybe he did not even know where it came from)
