I am trying to trace the history of F40 ZFFGJ34B000080706 originally supplied by Charles Pozzi 10/05/1998

Believed serviced by Autofficina Ferrari in 1989/90/91

    History is missing 1991-1996

then serviced again by Charles Pozzi 1996 - 2005,

    then L'Atelier des Coteaux in 2007 & 2009

sold at auction July 2010 and now in the UK.

Anyone know this car or its previous owners?

    Matthias Urban
present at Sport et Collection on June, 18th 2006 French- reg. "16 XG 60"

Still French registered then on "16 XG 60" it was at Artcurial's Sale #1855, Sport & GTs au Mans Classic, at Le Mans on July 9th 2010. Referred to Artcurial's results-db the car was offered as lot # 156 and was -believe it or not- unsold... This might indicate a post auction-purchase if the car has really gone to the UK.

    Never heard of since...

    Ian,

What is exactly HPI or registre V-Car?

Matthias said that the car's registration was "16 XG 60", which looks rather conform to a first registration in 1989 or 1990 in the Somme department.
It would mean also that the car never was registered in any other place after this, as with the "old" registration system (= before 2009), you could not, in theory, move to another department for a living, and drive your car here without having registered it under a new number in your new department of residence.
Should you have left the Somme department ("60") and went living in Alsace, for instance, you must have applied for another number ending with "67" (Department of Bas-Rhin, North of Alsace); or "68" (Haut-Rhin, South).

The french national register of registrations would give some information about the car and her former owners, but it is classified and secret: access is not possible.

Having said this, Pozzi could have answered, and I believe they would have, this until five or six years ago (they send the previous owner of one of my 328s a copy of the first pages of the missing Warranty Book, copy of the order for the car with options lists, etc...) but you must know that data protection laws are more strict each day here and I am fairly sure they would not give you this type of information these days, for fear of being sued for various reasons (infraction to data-protection laws, etc, or for providing elements to an owner proving that there has been mis-representation by the seller of one car's history, etc...and what have you).

You best hope is someone actually knowing the car, having seen it in the past, or perhaps serviced it.

    Rgds

In the UK, if an insurance company pays out on a car (rather than repairing it) and then sells the damaged vehicle, it is classified as 'Category A-D' depending upon the severity of the damage
Cat A & B cars can never be put back on the road but Cat C & D cars can be repaired and legally used.
HPI and V-Car record which vehicles have such history as the vast majority of people want to avoid buying a previously crashed car.
NB. If an insurance company repairs a damaged car for the policy holder it won't be listed.
Cat C & D cars are often ones where the cost of repairing them exceeds their value so it is cheaper to pay the policy holder the cars value than repair the car. These cars are often bought and repaired more cheaply, maybe using used parts, by a smaller bodyshop with lower overheads.
As people want to avoid Cat C & D cars they usually sell for about 1/3rd less (after being repaired) than an equivalent car without such adverse history.
No doubt some higher value cars, once repaired, are sold outside of the UK where their accident history is not known about.

Thanks Ian, I now understand; we don't have anything like this in France; either the vehicle is allowed to be driven, or not. But to the best of my knowledge, there is no possibility to check if its title has been cancelled once, but re-instated later after repairs.

La procédure des véhicules endommagés : Une procédure très encadrée

You do not have any name/adress about the shop(s) that have serviced it in the past?
You could also easily try to write to Pozzi; perhaps by a stroke of good fortune you will get an answer...they must know, as the were the official importer.

    Regards
