I am by no means an expert, but an F40 CONVERTED to LM spec does not make the car an LM.

Forgive me, on a cell phone. It is not an original LM. Converted as mentioned.

In the past few weeks I have seen more than 1 US spec F40 where the dealer/seller is asking in excess of $1.5M. Mostly super low mileage no story cars, but talk about sticker shock ! How does a US spec car go from $500K-$600K 2-3 years ago to $1.5M today ? I know that they made very few Enzo's and apparently several have been destroyed through accidents, hence lower quantity and massive price upswing. They made more than 3X the amount of F40's and I don't think that many have been destroyed through accidents (compared quantitatively to the Enzo) so WHY the irrational exuberance with respect to F40 prices (and arguably all vintage/supercar F cars) ? Those that own the cars will just say its long overdue or that they are artwork blah blah. I get it. Just saying that when an F40 sells in 2012 for $600K and it flips for $1.5M 2 years later there may be a serious issue. Great if your a seller, but is NOW the time to buy ? Will there be a correction ? If so will the correction reduce seller prices to the 2012 level (or earlier) ? I don't know and won't speculate. Guess I'm just being Capt. Obvious here. Still can't believe an F40 will sell for $1.5M+ just crazy !!!

It's not just the F40. All vintage and rare cars are up 100% or more in the past 2 or 3 years.

Don't assume the seller is seeing the same % lift. Much of this is a hyped market by "over zealous" dealers. I was contacted by a well known indie UK trader who gave me a very heavy sell (my car is a great example, only 8K miles, one owner, non cat non adj, blah blah blah). He wanted me to give him the car (it's firmly not for sale). So I asked what he'd give me and his price was laughable compared to some of the retail prices banded around, yet he kept pushing. Bizarre.

Some people will try anything to make some money, he was probably maximising his profits in that case. The auctions are a clear indication of the current selling prices and lately they have been the equiv. of 650k absolute minimum - 800kGBP ($1.3-1.5US)

Absolutely which is why I found the "it will start with a 5" amusing. If someone created a global service for exotics that securely matched buyers and sellers using auction results with flat fee transparent pricing it might help make for a more dynamic and open market.

Since you quoting the prices in GBP, I assume you are referring to the UK market

Would you be so kind to give examples for the above prices?

I've been following prices on F40s for quite a while but I don't remember a car sold for 800k gbp??

At auctions looks like the maximum reached was in the low/mid 600s...

Last one being auctioned was at the Salon Prive' Auction last week and he did not sell (estimate Gbp 600-750k). I wasn't there so not sure if it didn't reached the reserve price or what...

    https://www.silverstoneauctions.com/1991-ferrari-f40-

Would be interesting to see tonight's auction...I've seen the car and seat's fabric apart, looks like a decent car, not the best I've ever seen but it's an ok car.

My feeling is the supply of Euro F40s in the market at the moment is a bit too rich and prices feels toppish. Low mileage cars with prices in the gbp 700k+ are selling very very slowly (if selling...)

I agree, been watching UK F40 prices for a while, once they went beyond £500K for the very best examples I think too many average cars came out of the woodwork and the market is currently awash with overpriced cars that are not selling, just being advertised at inflated sums.

No doubt sensibly priced, better examples are finding new homes under the radar.

Its not just F40s either I follow a number of modern classics from £10k and over, they are all experiencing the same scenario

Well known Accident history guess you missed it Discussed in the official f40. Thread in july.

A friend of mine has a two owner fully documented no stories just underwent a open check book service anything it needed was done and other things were done to be the freshest f40. On the market everything from new, window sticker books tools etc.. Not ordered with luggage approved for Ferrari certification with folder inbound and given to new owner upon its arrival very rare an limited 1992 5400 miles that can be bought today in the 1.55mil range.

One of the first to go up, becomes the first to come down/go soft...... Interesting indeed.
