I'v got the OZ wheels finally fitted to the F40 and am wondering about the fitment of the rears as they look to me like they are too far inside the arches like they need spacers to push them out a bit. Does anyone know anything about this, I will try to get a photo up when I get time. Can you run spacers on centre lock wheels?

You can't run spacers on a F40. The center hub is drilled for the wheel lock pin and the spacer will place the wheel nut past the pin holes. The OZ wheels, in many cases, where built to LM specs and the offsets are not correct for a street car. The front wheel will sit too far out and you will get tire interference on the top of the wheel arch, this was my experience with my OZ rims on my F40. Your wheels may be different, with different offsets, but I sold my OZ rims as they simply would not work on a street F40.

This is a common problem when putting those wheels on a street car and the reason that I switched wheels from the OZ/Enkei set up. The street F40 does not have the dimensions of wishbones and so the rears sit extremely inboard. You can get different wishbones if you wish to run them or you can get different wheels. Spacers are not an option for center lock wheels like these for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is engagement bevel on the hub/wheel, hub extension, on and on.

Does this mean LM wishbones are an option?

Not exactly. You cannot do LM wishbones on the street without all kinds of other mods for them to work with the stock mounting and uprights. Furthermore, since they use rose joints or solid bushings, they don't make much sense for the street. However, if you know who to call, you can get LM spec sized "stock" F40 wishbones supplied to you that will mount to all the stock parts but put the OZ wheels in the desired position. However, it's not cheap and a lot of hoops to go through just for the sake of having the OZ wheels look right.

One last note: if you go down the road of putting LM parts on an F40 (which those wishbones would not be, to be clear) it starts a slippery slope of where do you stop messing with things. There are a lot of street cars (mine included) that have many LM parts on them. Some are much more track oriented and some are more road oriented but it's hard to get a car that is really good at both. Once you start putting on the LM stuff, it's hard to know where to draw the line. Mine is much more of a street car than Chris's F40. That car is a serious beast that will wreak havoc at just about any track in the country. Keep that in mind when you think about mods/upgrades.

I do not want to start modifying the car beyond any parts that can be easily swapped back as it is one of the most original F40s there is and has Classiche certification. I will see what I think when I get the car back and use it a bit. Thank you for your help.
