Thought I'd share my "experience". I noticed a slight stumbling at idle that prompted me to have the car looked at by my shop (WWOC in NY). Once we started diagnosing the problem things - well I think the pictures tell the tale. I'm doing a full engine rebuild, new liners, rings, valve reseating, belts, whatever. We got the parts in this week, so I'll try to post updates as the rebuild progresses. Kevin at Wide World of Cars in New York is handling the rebuild with his team, all I can say is that they are doing a wonderful job and I'm thankful for their patience and professionalism.

COOL! I didn't realize we had another F40 owner on the site (though I see you've been around a while)

That's not Kevin with the torch, that's my friend Rosairo. Both of them are super and have a lot of F 40 Knowledge. You're in good hands.
Kevin is to the left in the pics you posted that crossed with my posting.

Great post. Nice to see the internals of the engine outside of a museum. Thanks for sharing with us.

Wow Jon! Didnt' realize things were at this point. I'm glad to see that the team at WWoC is doing a good job. When's the estimated completion date?

    Hi Vik,

Yeah, the sh?t hit the fan Friday evening before the Time Square shoot. The car was running badly for several weeks and I thought it was from a bad potentiometer screwing up the idle. When we pulled the plugs 3 cylinders had really bad compression - we pulled the heads thinking exhaust valves but they were ok, the problem was rings and 3 bad cylinder liners - I'm replacing rings and liners on all cylinders, might as well get her back to A+ condition. Parts came in this week, so I expect to have her back on the road in about 2 weeks. Kevin and the crew at WWOC are great, you could eat off of the parts after they did the disassembly. I got nervous because Jim Murphy the service manager left, but everything is gong great and I feel really good about how the rebuild is taking place.

Give me a call if you feel like taking a peek, its like visiting a sick child in the hospital for me - any excuse to get there is a good one!

Yeah its really cool, I'm not a mechanic so being able to see the things that you only read about really makes a big difference. Chalk it up to one very expensive adult education class....

Thanks for the pictures! How many miles were on the motor when you decided to rebuild it? Is there anything that can be done to ensure that the same thing doesn't happen again?
