    Hi guys,

As much as I love my 355,I want to divorce the ugly airbag steering wheel and replace her with either a 360 modena steering wheel with airbag ideally blu scuro or black.
Can anyone help,I've done quite some research but couldn't get my hands on one.
Any suggestions as where to look?

I'm also considering an early model 355 2.7 non airbag steering wheel but with not much luck either.

Last question: since the 456 share the same airbag with the 355 and the same steering wheel design,I was wondering if the early non airbag 456 steering wheel could fit the 355,does anyone have the answer? Non airbag 456 steering wheel look very sexy to me.I included pictures of both non airbag steering wheels from 355 and 456 below.
Thanks for your tips and advices.
    Cheers from Paris.

The 550 Maranello steering wheel has been fitted to the 355. The 360 wheel looks better in a 355, but the 550 wheel is really nice too. Don't know about the 456 wheel. I'd like a 360 wheel too, but too pricey from the dealer and the airbag is too hard to find second hand.

You could always get a Momo with an adapter and put a Ferrari horn button in.

Hi Olivier - I installed a 360 Challenge Stradale wheel with airbag several years ago, and I love its look and feel. It pretty much bolts right into place, but I had a dealer do it to make sure the airbag was correctly connected. I purchased my wheel from Ricambi - yes, a bit pricey, but a very nice upgrade.

I just recently installed the 360 Challenge Stradale wheel and airbag also. It makes driving the car a lot more fun. Also the horn placement buttons is different from the regular 360 and 355 placement. My thumbs rest right on the horn buttons for those times where you need to apply quickly.

I did the 360 steering wheel 3 years ago. Feels really nice and it also makes the interior look more modern. One of the best upgrades for the money in my opinion !

If you figure it out pass the word. I do not care about having a airbag so I dont really like the 360 option and people want way to much for a 360 airbag I can live without it have for years. I hate airbags.

Thanks guys for your input,I understand most of you went for the challenge stradale steering wheel upgrade which I'm sure is technically awesome but imho might be aesthetically a tat too modern for the already dated 90's interior look of the F355.

There's a controversy about safety issues switching from OEM 355 airbag to 360 airbag model, any thoughts or comments on that?

Although I imagine insurance policies differ between Europe and the US,how do you feel about potential legal issues making the switch from OEM 355 airbag to non airbag or airbag 360 steering wheel?

Last but not least, could anyone tell me if non airbag 456 steering wheel could fit the 355?

Enclosed are a couple pics of my Argento mistress, hope you'll enjoy.
    Cheers from Paris.

Maybe but in case of accident couldn't they use such a modification against you to cancel your protection and privileges since it affects OEM core security equipments?

My company asks if the car they are insuring has an airbag.

    Just click no.

Now you do understand not all airbags go off in accidents sometimes they just don't work.
If your cars Airbag light is on you have an issue. Nothing says they will check to see if the system was functioning in an accident.

FChat and EBay. I got lucky and found a 360 wheel on eBay fairly quickly. New wheel makes such a difference in the driving experience. It was an easy mod as well...15 min. Good luck!

I have a 355 also and would love to here whether the 456 wheel is an option or what wheels will work-not concerned with the air bag either, just want a sportier looking wheel that fits the interior look and that is a Ferrari steering wheel. Thanks for your input.

I like the 550 wheel best, it fits the interior design a little better than the 360 wheel imo.

My bigger issue is the distance of the wheel from me, I need it an inch or two closer, does anyone know if any of the other wheels stick out further?

Johnny, my wheel and hub are 19 years old and no longer being produced.

The current MOMO Team is similar to my wheel. Splined quick release hubs are all pretty similar and can be ordered with MOMO adapters.

I'm not sure if the other steering wheels will wind up closer to you, Pete. If not, Hill Engineering offers a selection of steering wheel spacers: Hill Engineering Steering Wheel Spacers

When you do that, Tim, you'll won't have use of the horn button on the steering wheel.

My F355 Challenge lost its horn years ago when it raced. I installed a reproduction 1969 Plymouth Road Runner horn and wired it to the door unlock switch on the console (the locking mechanisms were removed years ago too)...

Great car. I've done the conversion with a regular 360 Modena steering wheel. I found it on ebay fairly quickly, and much cheaper than a new one (and it had a bit of patina to match the car). It really does lift the interior, by far the best mod other than Capristo that I've made. It took 15 minutes to switch. I'm not an expert but I spoke to a couple of indies here in the UK who seemed confident that it would work in a collision as they didn't think that the part in the air bag itself that sets the bag off (essentially a detonator) had changed between models and that is what would count. It didn't set off the airbag light when I switched either, although I'm not sure that means much.

One thing about ebay purchases is that the airbag itself is considered an explosive so they aren't supposed to be sold with the wheel (or at least shipped), so you may have to source one separately.

On the insurance, French law is a completely different legal system than the US or the UK, so you'll need to check with a French lawyer to be sure. Under most common law jurisdictions (like all of the US except Louisiana and the UK), it may impact your personal injury cover component of your car insurance if you don't disclose it to the insurance company. In US/UK changing the airbag shouldn't affect the balance of your car insurance policy other than personal injury cover for the driver. If you have separate injury cover (say under your homeowner's policy or through your health insurance/work policy) it shouldn't affect it at all.
