Hi everyone. As I continue my search for a 355 it occured to me that I had better check that I can get it in the garage. I have the dimensions of 4250 long x 1900mm wide, but this dose not tell the whole story. I can get my 993 in very easily with lots of room to get out. I can also get one of the latest shape 3 series in but its a bit tighter. Does anyone have any schematic type views so that I can see where the width dimension of 1900mm is taken from, I can then probably work out if I can open the drivers door ok. Regards
Its not how long the garage is thats the problem its how wide. My 355 from one mirror to another, is 197cm. From one rear wing edge to the other rear wing edge is 187cm.
Ray it will fit - I had exactly the same thoughts when I bought mine. I have a 1930's detached house with an itegral garage with barn sytle doors rather than an up an over door. You loose a couple of inches with the barn type doors because of the door frame. My opening is smaller than yours and my car fits fine.
ray ,ive put carpet on the walls to aid getting out as my garage is tight, although you get use to it ,and i havent had to see a cairopractor yet! i guess it all boils down to how much you want one .
Hi Everyone, First time I've posted on Ferrarichat. Although I've read lots of interesting threads! I may have met a few of you when I've been at one of Leyton T's gatherings-Thanks for all the tips mate. I'm a really big Ferrari fan and am seriously thinking of getting a Ferrari now, before I get any pressure in a couple of years . I'm in a similar situation to Ray with regard to garage space. I have an integral garage measuring Width 2600mm, garage door 2100mm and length 5500mm. The length seems fine but the width maybe a bit limiting especially as in the centre it reduces to 2400mm where the centre supports are situated (just where I would probably need to open the door (D'oh). I am considering a 355 berlinetta as it's the car I really want (although I'd have to stretch myself a bit finacially). Also this would probably need to be LHD and I'm told this is not such a good idea for your first Ferrari. I'm also considering a 328 (classic looks & cheaper running costs compared with a 355), however I find it a bit limiting for headroom and the pedals are fairly close (will have to learn how to heel and toe correctly). I think I'd be nervous of damaging the car if the garage space is too restrictive I'll have to try some test drive to find which car suits me the most. - I Might only have a few years with the car before other commitments arise. So if I had to choose one car and it may be my only chance which should it be? Thanks Andy
Unless your garage is smaller than mine you'll find a way of getting out of it! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Welcome to Fchat mate, get one while you can, thats what I say. as long as its not one of them 348 thingys, they don't know what they wanna be....they are like the b@stard love child of a Testa and 355. Only with non of the good bits from either.Runt of the litter you could say. Plus the owners can be a bit strange.....
You're better off getting a good 348 than a bad 355. The 355 is a pretty car, but the 348 is much more agressive looking. Like comparing Shirley Temple to the Terminator. I was also considering either a 328 or waiting a little longer and getting a 355, rather than a 348 due to all the negative stuff that's said about it. A lot of it's nonsense and 348's are largely well sorted cars now. Best thing is too drive all three cars and see which one you like more. 328's and 348's are comparable in price and a good 355 is about £15K -£20K more. All are good cars, but at the moment 348's seem to be the best value. Here's a recent poll............ Image Unavailable, Please Login
Does this help, don't forget to add a bit extra for the mirrors......... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Everyone, Thanks for the info. I'm going to take some test drives to see which I feel is the best for me (although my bank balance probably won't agree). I'll check the village where my wife's parents live in the Netherlands when we go on holiday. There's a classic car dealership there and two years ago they had a Ferrari exhibition with about 40 cars including a prototype Daytona and a 275 NART spider and some other unusual cars such as a turbo Koenig Testarossa and 400i convertable. Ray are the dimensions of your garage similar to mine by-the-way? Cheers Andy
Ray are the dimensions of your garage similar to mine by-the-way? Cheers Andy[/QUOTE] Andy My garage is plenty long enough its the width thats a problem it is 2.4 wall to wall. Can anyone tell me the length of the doors on the 355? I can work out from that how much room I would have to get out. Cheers
That's quite a narrow internal measurement. Follow the links from the post below and you'll see that I have an internal width of 103.5, but GrahamS has a narrower one. I think yours may be about an inch narrower than his. http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=134424323&postcount=11 There are pics of mine showing clearance with the door open in one of the theads, plus mirror clearance on the entrance.
