Ferrari F12 vs Lamborghini Aventador vs Aston Vanquish | evo REVIEW - YouTube Even has an Aston thrown in for good measure
Refinement/smoothness of running gear, general usability, and ergonomics favor the F12. "What the hell is that" factor favors the Aventador.
Aventador for me is too big, too clumsy and far too dramatic. This all takes away from the ability to drive the car as it was intended on the road. I definitely find myself preferring the more subtle, sexy and mature lines of the F12 especially when combined with the performance and usability. The Aventador for me is truly just a looker!
The comparison between f12 and aventador makes sense on one hand but on the other doesnt. F12 is easy cruiser with a large trunk space and a spacious interior whereas the aventador is basically just a flamboyent supercar. I would rather go with the f12 but love the aventador too when it is a convertible. The interior of the coupe is just too small and reminds me of a cage.
i got into the aventador at the car show last year. very nice. cool shape. nice sound. then i asked whether they came with racing seats so that i could fit a 4 or 5 point harness....the dealer was shocked. he asked why i would want to do that? i answered that any supercar with 700bhp needs to be tracked at least once. he looked puzzled and asked why i would want to do that? and then he said no, no such seats, and he would not recommend tracking it. thats all i needed to know.
its pretty funny to hear that description ,'easy cruiser' directed at the fastest, street legal car to ever leave the factory at Maranello!
I just had the same experince at a Maclaren dealer. I was horrfied to hear that these cars are tracked with regular seatbelts. As to aventador/F12. Nether of these cars is a "track" car. Both are too big and heavy. Maybe in Germany or the ME you can really use the performance on road, in which case the F12 is functionaly better. For the occasional track foray and having sane or semi sane fun on the street its gotta be an aventador, Seriously if you are buying a ridiculous overpowered car, then it migth as well be the most ridiculous and wild looking. The aventador like all great exotics should be an occasion every time the wheels move. If you wanted a drivers car to use on the street and occasional track, is a R8 991 458 not a functionaly better choice. So if you are going for a supercar why not go all extreme. Yeah the F12 is on paper a little quicker, in anyhting but pro hands is there really a difference in performance. I think modern cars in general have become so accomplished as to be diluted in terms of emotive tactile driving experience. My impression is the aventador still retains all the good subjective things about supercars. Plus in a year or so we will see a Z06 or Zr1 vette that will clock the F12 and they look betetr too. I am biased, as I am saving towards an aventador, the F12 may drive great but it dosent move me to want/have to own it at all, which is a pity because ferrari used to own that space.
i have a track car. my point was simply that lambo's are not for serious performance around a track. they are good poseurs, and straight line's, and maybe a few curves here and there. the f12 may not be the ultimate track weapon, but it is surely a helluva lot more of a driver's car than the aventador. now, as for looks....the aventador is very cool. just not sure i would want to bring it home to meet mom.
I think that's the thing with the F12. For it being the fastest Ferrari aside from the LaFerrari, you'd think it would look a bit more exotic for that price, which is where Lambos do well.
the F12 is more technically (DCT) and aero-dynamically advanced as well as more practical (more luggage space). those A pillars in the Lambo would drive me nuts. but I would consider the convertible...if the 458 spider were not an option. Just can't imagine giving up the 458 Spider as it is perfect. Can't imagine getting more attention than the 458 and likeing it. I love the looks of the F12...especially compared to the 599. Looks like it would be too twitchy for me. the 458 is so steady and predictable. plus I love spiders. seems like you are going faster, more involved, more fun IMVHO. the Aston Martin now looks like a Ford. they are all over the place here. and the AM just does not melt my butter. we have a few in town. nobody pays any attention at all (just like the R8s). too much like a Ford to get much attention. we had an orange Lambo conv in town a few years ago. saw it around town for two summers then it just disappeared. there was a white Lambo conv in town two years ago. saw it in town for a couple of weeks. then saw it pulled over by the cops in Glenwood Springs and never saw it again. my point is Lambos are as rare as hen's teeth here. my conclusion: not very popular.
If it's even fair to have a gripe in a borrowed car, that would be my only one. You could project a widescreen movie onto the A-pillars. Looking to the next turn was like flipping slides in a View Master.
Definite +1 for Evan. I drove one for 300 miles, always conscious of the fact that I couldn't see and didn't know where the right side of the monster was. Like driving a fast Hummer H1.
I know about the power. Have driven both cars before. I was referring more to the cruising capabilites that you can have when you want to. The f12 is next to the 458 my absolute dream car
A F12 spec'd out the right way can be insane, but it'll never be as cool as an Aventador. I'd only get an F12 if I already had an Aventador.
I dont get avent vs f12 comparos as they are too different. Sorry to hijack thread but how about aventador vs speciale? Would be similar as crazy street cars. Both uncomfortable, loud, harsh, etc. Speciale is smaller and has normal doors while lambo has real interior. I go speciale
Nope, F12 don't get any attention... These people were gathered around my car on Sunday. In a role reversal, I asked if I could take a picture of them. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I love both cars, like some mentioned they are completely different. Cant tell which one is better looking when they are together. F12 is very elegant and Aventador design is super impresive and complex. In terms of driving the F12 is easier to drive and the engine seams to rev easier compared to the Aventador that sometimes feels heavy.
It was very unsettling! Even when glancing over the shoulder you can never be 100% sure if there is or isn't a car in your (massive) blind spot! Unfortunately I have not yet had an opportunity to drive the F12 however I can't imagine the usability will be as bad as the Aventador.
Here is a general comment that some will find inflammatory. I think that there is a small class of exotic cars that seem designed to appeal to those looking for extremes, while sacrificing things that go to make driving a high performance car a pleasurableand rewarding experience. These cars have a high "Hey-look-at-me" factor but often lack taste, refinement, and good driving manners. The Aventador does actually perform well but it is not a pleasurable experience on normal roads. A worse example is the Mercedes McLaren SLR which was simply awful, with twitchy steering, a transmission that might as well have been an old Chevy Powerglide, and brakes that defied modulation. It bowed to enormous hype from the auto journalism community. But it did stand out in a crowd .. and drew them. Such cars are the 'shock and awe' of exotics, and they occupy a niche in the market. But they do not represent the height of automotive style, performance, and driving enjoyment that commands the attention of so many enthusiasts.
