True, but when after 2 world titles Gordon Murray and Nelson Piquet went to see Ecclestone together to ask for more money, he flatly refused.
So they both started to look outside and left Brabham. Maybe Bernie wanted to sell the team already. His FOCA activities taking most of his time.

Ronnie and Gilles, the 2 most spectacular drivers of all times...Gilles ended this race with another wrekage after a puncture inside the tunel..it was a big shunt and Gozzi warned him that the carnage had to stop..for his own sake!

Alesi never was that much special (Berger and Alesi are pretty flawed F1 drivers for Ferrari IMO), that F1 car though is sexy as hell.

Not sure if posted before, but legend Forghieri on Villeneuve, turbocharged Ferrari F1 cars, the F40, the Bugatti EB110 and much more:

No, I don't think we have. Alesi and Berger were decent drivers at the time, but they never lifted Ferrari above what they were at the time; second best.

    Spectacular yes, but not successful.
Lots of showboating putting unecessary stress on their cars, in those days.
They both didn't know how to pace themselves.

fair enough, i to believe they lacked that extra a champion like (Prost, Michael, Piquet, Lauda) have to lift a team, but in terms of driving skils, Alesi was second to none.

It's funny how this once active thread suddenly died over four months ago and was now buried on the fourth page of this forum. I'm bumping it to see if we can get some contributions from newer FChat members who may have not even known that this thread exists!

Here's a rather fuzzy photo of James Hunt's McLaren in the Watkins Glen garage after winning the '76 U.S. GP. Hunt is sitting on the right sidepod while his surrogate, one Mickey Mouse, enjoys the cockpit.

Not always, senna looked pretty fast to me! True about Prost, he was o smooth no one could tell how quick he was going! We are used to the story that the cleaner and less spectacular the driver is, the faster he goes, wich is true for drivers such as Lauda, stewart, Senna, Prost, hakkinen, and many others, because we normaly, sliding a car will make you lose time, that's why i find it much more remakable that drivers such as Ronnie and Gilles (who weer arguably the fastest in their days) where also the more spectacular ones, because make no mistake, during the time he was racing, no one was as fast as Gilles.

    No they didn't!
Part of the skill in those days was to look after your car to keep it in good shape to the end of the race.
Some drivers has sympathy with their car, other trashed them regardless of the consequences.
Jim Clark would nurse his car with failing oil pressure to win a race, for example.
Villeneuve wouldn't even look at the dials on the dashboard !!!

You have the same now with drivers who know how to manage their tyres, and those who don't.
