I hope this is the best place to post this.

In April of this year, my 2013 458 was returned to me from routine dealer service. The car arrived with damage to the hood and front bumper cover from being struck by the car loaded in front of mine. Apparently the late 50's Cadillac bounced down a few times into my car during the trip.

Exotic Car Transport from near Orlando, FL was the carrier.

The driver was notified at the site of delivery, business owner was contacted and photos were taken. The next day the owner, Jan, assured me things would be taken care of. We agreed that the car would be taken back to the dealer for free. They picked up the car, took it back to Atlanta, and charged me for the shipping. All of the interactions with driver and owner were very pleasant. At no time was there any shouts, threats made, complaints, etc. The driver complimented me on how patient and understanding I was being. The owner then stopped answering my phone calls or returning my messages.

After two weeks, I had an attorney call. He got an immediate response, and the insurance company contacted me within 48 hrs. Things then started proceeding for repairs with parts orders, etc.

Work took longer than I'd hoped, but when it was done in mid-July, I was eager to get my car back. Tenco Insurance then proceeded to take almost 4 weeks to process the claim and finally pay their portion. That left Exotic Car Transport on the hook for $5K deductible. They were notified by the insurance company to write the check and forward it to the body shop.

As of this post, they have not complied with that request. My attorney advised me to pay the $5K, take delivery of my car, and file a claim. I am in the process of doing just that.

My message here is simple: Be very careful in choosing your car carrier. I strongly advise you to not use Exotic Car Transport. I have discovered that this is not the first incident that has been poorly handled. It is entirely unacceptable to treat a customer this way. Things happen. What separates a good business from a bad one is how they handle themselves when things go wrong.

Exotic Car Transport will never get my or any of my associates business again. Pass this along.

I had a very bad experience with Exotic, made worse by their absolute lack of care or concern over the situation, without so much as an apology or an offer of a "make good." No point in going into the details here, but I will never use them again and would never recommend them.

I intend to. I'm about the least litigious person I know, but my limit has been reached. I would've been happy just for the repairs to have been covered. Now we're talking loss of use, diminished value, legal fees, value of my time, transportation costs, and whatever else the attorneys can cook up.

In the meantime, I hope my story prevents this from happening to anyone else. If they lose business, all the better. Paying the $5K that is owed would've have been the least painful option for them.

And how! The first two or three jobs that he loses would cover the cost of 'approaching' making you whole. Everything beyond that is directly out of his hide. How stupid can he be?

I'm currently shopping for shipping several cars for a client, and this one deters me from looking at Exotic Car Transport, even though I've had good experiences with them in the past. It's difficult to recommend a place, even though most have an issue from time to time.

I agree. Most can have an issue. It's not a perfect world. It's how they've handled the issue that's the problem. You cause the damage, you pay for the repairs. Completely.

Clearly they don't intend to do that, which should make everyone think about using a different carrier.

I used them last winter and the service was impeccable. Based on this information I will utilize another service this winter.

I hope this is resolved quickly for you.

I stand corrected. Lawyer secured check for the amount owed plus transportation costs and legal fees. Would've been cheaper and less damaging to their business to have paid the original amount owed when due.

I, however, will not be a future customer despite the settlement.

I never understand how, in this day and time, companies think they can get away with stuff like this by going silent....

This single thread will cost them more than fixing the OP's car (and apologizing) would have. Now, they (the shipper) will pay more to the OP and spend the next 2 years repairing the damage to their image. Just stupid and amazingly short sighted.

That's an understatement ---- they are always at least 30-40% higher than everyone else anytime I get a quote from them.

I really don't understand how they stay in business, frankly.

Glad everything is sort of finally resolved. I have advised service companies to quickly resolve claims whenever possible for decades. Interesting that they had vehicles that could touch when moving. I know when I had a large amount of vehicles transported from the east to west coast my men made a long wood ramp so there would be no scraping of the bodies. They also loaded and unloaded my vehicles because of some of the unusual lights and bumpers.

Hope your car looks as good as it did prior to the transport error.

Been there done that, get a note posted on central dispatch about this interaction with this carrier/transporter and always verify the insurance is legitimate and valid. I was just about to ship a Ferrari and I just asked the carrier who was their insurance and thankfully I asked and found out the transporter was not only under insured but the policy was not valid. if I had shipped and something happened not only I'd be SOL i'd be screwed. So, for anyone else reading this use a reputable carrier or build a reputation with a trusted carrier and validate that their insurance is current and valid and can cover your car in the event of loss.
Also make sure when shipping your car that NO old cars are transported above your newer car, Old cars leak.

I priced single car trailers for the return. More than double the cost of the larger trucks. I decided to fly down and drive back. Although I flew for free with some of my miles, the ticket would've been a little over $300 one way. I had the fun of a nice 500 mile sprint home.

Turns out the cheapest option was also the safest and most fun!

I had a problem with my carrier. It was out of fl but not sure if this one. Truck broke down. So a day after my scheduled arrival date I call and find out the truck has been stuck for almost a week in az waiting for parts but nobody bothered calling. Get a new date and the same thing happens day late and no call. Truck is dead in el paso. Wtf!

This is what really pod me. It was a subcontractor! Truck looked like the service--s$&tty. I was the first stop. A new rolls and two new ferraris were on it. I imagine the trucking co got several nasty calls.

Best I have ever used is Jody from J.E.T.S. - (806) 220 3039. He is the only one who touches the cars and takes absolute care. I have tried all the "big" guys (Horseless, Reliable, Intercity, Western, etc.) and I hate to say this but out of all the cars I've bought, only Jody has taken care of the car the same way I would and the car and all the spare parts arrived perfectly. He used to all the driving for Ferrari of Denver and I know that he transports a lot of Ferrari Challenge cars for CC clients as well so Ferraris are easy for him.

But with the other guys, here are some instances:

    1) F40 came with a dead battery - driver kicked on the hazards when he was climbing out of the car when he loaded it - add $250 to the price of the transport for me to replace, not the mention the hassle of having to push the car two blocks to my house.

    2) 550 Maranello - came with some dings that I had to get out with PDR that were not there when I inspected the car the day before it was loaded and the driver lifted the hand brake handle so high it ripped off the switch for the Daytona seats - another few hundred $ to remedy.

    3) Countach - arrived filthy and needing a complete detail because they unloaded it in a massive storm to move around another car so it sat in a dirt parking lot for an hour with serious rain falling, splashing up mud and stuff.

The Daytona, M1, and other cars were all moved from one transport to another in the course of getting them to me when I was told that they would not be moved. All needed something or another.

As I said, Jody is the only one that I trust to do it properly.

Image Auto Group (out of Las Vegas) hauled my 250GTE from Houston Texas to Prescott Arizona. Very courteous professional and right on schedule. Competitive rates also. I had used them once before this job, same results. Highly recommended.
Other side of the coin was Alpine Transportation, which hauled a vintage Mercury from Austin Texas to San Diego California 3 years ago. What a bunch of losers. Non-existent communication, truck driver couldn't speak English and got lost, car covered in grime,,,,, the list goes on.
