Anyone care to share their exhaust preference/opinion for the 456M? Tubi, Capristo, Fiammenghi Not looking for muffler delete/straight pipe. TIA.
After testing a few combinations, I run Fabio’s deletes and the stock center resonator. I will see myself out…
Exhaust is such a personal decision. There are so many choices.. in the Viper world there are a multitude of choices... in the Ferrari world it is more defined with fewer choices. What do you want... loud, quiet, deep, thin... raspy... I have stock center section and Tubi mufflers and love the sound.
On my GT, it came to me with no center resonator and what I came to find out empty Catalyst pipes. Those now are Fabspeed Sportcats, and i have since acquired a pair of early 550 Tubis... Its loud at idle and low speeds, but truly sings above 3500rpm.
Incidentally, I had the a similar set up on my 575 when I purchased it (albeit w cats). You are right, it was a very LOUD setup, despite mine being the later version tubi and w cats + precats in place. Now it is much quieter as you heard, even valves open.
I know a guy who has a Remus Exhaust on his 456m GTA. I just noticed it last week, never knew such an option existed. The Exhaust pipes are stamped “Remus”. I have a Remus exhaust on my Ducati.
I have the Fiammenghi center deletes with the sport valve exhaust. With the valves closed I feel it’s still a bit to quiet but with the valves open to much drone only at idle. I have the center delete being replaced with the original but probably won’t have the car back for a few more months so no clue how it will sound. Hoping I can keep valves open without drone. I also replaced my Fabio center H-pipe and went back to the OEM (non restrictive) resonator. Coupled with his muffler deletes it is perfect for me.
I would go with iriginal cats, open X-pipe and some sort of rear mufflers. On my 456M I tried several set-ups both with and without catalyzers, with OEM center muffler/resonator and original rear mufflers, Fuchs rear sport mufflers and Stebro rear muffler delete pipes. I also tried two separate pipes in place of the center muffler. Huge differences.... What I really liked was what I did just before I sold the car. That was original catalyzers, Stebro 1 foot long oval "X-pipe" and muffler delete pipes. After spending about 10.000 dollars and two years of trail and error, I was shocked that what was the least expencive modifications gave the BEST result. It was a bit loud, but no drone at all. I have never really got my 550 to sound as good as the 456M.... After soending probably more than on the 456. World problems... But when you really want to enjoy your car in all kinds of situations and types of driving, the exhaust is really important !!
I bought it from Dan Pechening, the founder/operator if Stebro in Canada where they are made. They are no longer i business as far as I know. But nothing special about the design really. I believe the longer the X or joining is, the more silencing you get. It was about a foot long. That the design is a wider flatter design than a round tube/pipe, is not something I will comment on, but my friend with an Alfa Romeo GTV6 2,5 had the same design on his car and the sound was magnificent. Might be worth a try... I have no sound clips.
The 456M also have a different firing order than most of the rest of the Ferrari V12s including 456 GT and 550 / 575 etc... The reason why I did this set-up is because I had a friend with a 1995 456 GT with that exact set-up, and it was really a good crisp sound. Quite loud, but more "music" than noise. A set of rear sport mufflers could make it slightly more sivilized without maiing it boring.
2002 456MGT. I’m stock with Tubi’s, sounds good and IMO in keeping with the “GT” spirit of the car. That said, I think it could use a little more drama. Would love to hear some 456M sound clips if anyone has them with the stock setup and muffler deletes.
