Started her up and heard what sounded like a motorcycle engine right next to me. It was a clap clap clap kind of sound. After she was warmed up the sound went away--most of it but I could still hearit at lower revs.

Took her in and the problem seems to be the exhaust manifold. One side is possibly cracked.

Was wondering if both sides should be changed?

Better to do both sides if possible while it's under warranty and on ferraris dime

Try and get a copy of service bulletin 399, it involves the exhaust replacement on cars in north america and software change to suit

I haven't read about "cracked" headers before on the Cali but its a HUGE issue on F430 and rear engined cars

Absolutely. At least shoot for that. Hey, what year is your car and what's your mileage? Thought Ferrari learned with the 430. Thx.

My Cali is an early 2010 and has 44,000 miles.
They will only replace what is broken.
But the exhaust warranty is pretty good. I think it covers manifolds for 7 yrs in California

Do you still have the original manifolds or are they the ones replaced under the campaign?

My original manifolds were replaced under the campaign.
So the update one has cracked.
The new one might be the same one in the 2012 "30" . I'm not sure. I'll get my car in a day or two.

The emmission warranty covers manifolds for 7 years or 70K miles.

8 years is great coverage F430s are really prone to have leaking manifold problems

GOt my Cali back. There was a weird hairline crack which the factory says is the first one they have seen.

Let's hope so. I think the Cali exhaust is much more robust than the F430 which had no end of leaks.

Anyway, the emissions warranty for both cars is pretty good, so owners don't need to sweat too much.

If you and or anyone can send me a set of Ferrari California factory OEM headers I will digitized the headers, CAD design a set, flow test them in Solidworks, and build CNC mandrel bent race quality headers with high velocity merge collectors.

If any is local to the new Fabspeed Motorsport USA facility we will provide free before and after dyno testing and we can work together on a great upgrade for early and late model California's. We should easilly be able to engineer a simple direct replacement high performance header for these cars. If I remember correctly the most current California's have an enhanced higher performance header. With a clean Ned CAD design my engineers and designers can maximize performance.

    Have a great weekend

I would not bother making performance headers for the Cali, the vast majority of cali owners here are not performance orientated

The existing supersprint, novitec and capristo headers are already tried and proven yet I'm not aware of anyone posting here that they have purchased them

I think the only market left for California exhausts that will be profitable is for JIM/Innotech to make a set of valved rear mufflers in Taiwan for half the price of the current products on the market

The days of engineering and manufacturing aftermarket exhausts in first world countries is almost over

Which country would you get the Cali headers manufactured in?

The north American cars have a unique emissions warranty that does not exist outside north America

For those outside NA, emission related components are simply covered for the duration of the new car warranty

My warranty ends next year, so it is a concern to me and I would think others outside north America

If my car was in Australia, it would already be out of new car warranty because Australian cars were only covered by a three year warranty

But I accept YOU don't need to worry

Didn't know about the shorter exhaust coverage outside of the US.
I am keeping my Cali after the regular warranty expires. I am contemplating the factory extended warranty. Unfortunately Ferrari will surprise you in terms of repairs.

Where do you live? It's also 3 years in the US. Will be out in November, but no extended warranty here. Ridiculous prices and conditions. Having to pay 3 grand for an 'inspection' (including transportation) just to be able to buy the warranty is almost insulting. You can automatically buy an extended warranty while under factory warranty on any car, except Ferrari. Will roll the dice. Would really have to have major trouble to spend more than the warranty.

I live all over the place, spend a bit of the year in SoCal, about 3 or 4 months of the year in the UK with my car, and the rest of the time in australia

I lived in SoCal for three years out of the last 10 for work but didn't enjoy it

I love London the best, and it's a great place to be able to enjoy a nice car

France and Belguim are 2.5 hours away by taking the car in the euro tunnel

The warranty on my car is 4 years, it's a UK delivered car
