Ex-Don Johnson Testarossa on Ebay

I read somewhere that Mr. Johnson was GIVEN the car by Enzo himself, in appreciation for promoting the car/brand during the VICE days. If that's true, I'd have to question Don's sanity for disposing of such a treasured gift.

 

I always thought Don Johnson drove a white Ferrari Testarosa in the series? Maybe I am mistaken or maybe his personal TR was Grey in color?…..seriously though, I know he lives here in San Francisco in the Pacific Heights area (top of the hill) and it could be he was tired of scraping the spoiler every time he drove it home up the steep hills here in San Francisco! After all there are only a few ways to get to his house at the top of the hill in Pacific Heights! Maybe he drives a Hummer now?

 

I heard it was given to him by Ferrari but i don't know about it being by Enzo himself. Anyway he's Don Johnson, he can buy whatever he wants, i doubt he'd be too attached to any car.

 

No way that happened. If that TR is an 89, the earliest it would have been built was about June of 88. The Pope couldn't even get in to see Enzo in June (I think June) of 88 because of poor health when he visited the factory. If Enzo couldn't get up for him I seriously doubt he was all about Don Johnson and Miami Vice.

Probably what really happened was FNA gave it to the studio and the studio gave it to him and thru the years it changed to "the factory" and then "Enzo himself"

Not that it really matters anyway but I would be interested in seeing the VIN plate date just to see if it was built AFTER 8/88 when Enzo passed.

hmmmm... just found out that this is the car that I posted about a few days ago.. It was initially listed for $49788, then the price was increased to $52988 and now the price is at $62988 on the Autotrader online...

Interesting.. Either they made a mistake twice when listing the car or they only found out later that the car was owned by Don Johnson...

There is an article about Miami Vice on the lower portion of the articles section that discusses this. There were actually two black TR's.

Disappointing, should have been repainted back to it's original Vice's day, white!

 

It's not the white car from the TV series. It's a silver, personal car for D. Johnson. The white TV series cars weren't even white, they were originally black. See the couple posts above.

 

I don't recall the TV series white TR's having chocolate leather... I thought they were white/tan?

Anyone actually know the serials of the TV cars?

 

Did this get auctioned again in January at B-J? in 2003, it sold there for about 90k. Anyone have pics from the car or the old ebay sales?

 

I remember this car....I ran across it about a year or two after the B-J Auction. It was up for sale at the same time as my car. This was 4 years ago and he was asking 10K more for the silver one. Mine, a 1990 was 59K with the major having been done within 6 months- the silver was 69K with no records.

Outside:

It was a wreck. The front air dam needed to be replaced (very, very damaged) the rear panel under the bumper looked like it had been dragged down the street. There were dents and dings everywhere. There was damage to one of the mirrors...and so on. This was a beat-down Ferrari in poor used car condition.

Inside:

The leather was worn..not bad, but worn. It did not look like anyone had cleaned it since Johnson last drove it. There were visible amounts of sand, leaves and bugs on the floor mats. And it STINKED of stale smoke.

The only thing I liked better on this car was the original shift knob. I had him switch the cheesy aftermarket in mine for the original knob and I was on my way.

I wonder what became of this.

 

I never understood the celebrity ownership thing with cars. When I was TR shopping, a guy had Nikki Six's old TR (Motley Crue?). I asked if it had been disinfected.

Chances are celebs don't take care of their stuff, why would I want it.

Or they could be a enthusiast like Jay Leno and take very good care of their cars. Nice job insulting someone you never met.

 

It usually comes down to the individual celeb. If they blow their fortune, and have hard times in their career, you can assume the F cars $$$$ go unmaintained...

If they are responsible, and own multiple exotics, upgrading to newer models, maybe they did maintain them a bit. Some dealer takes the cars on trade, records and recent work is up to them at that point.

 

Never met Jay Leno. I know he is a car guy, but I,m sure he doesnt clean or polish any of his cars himself. I guess at least he pays someone to keep his stuff clean.

 

Don't have to do it yourself to make sure your cars are well taken care of as long as the job gets done correctly.

 

Did Nikki Sixx have a TR as well? I remember a poster here one time saying that they had Tommy Lee's TR in for repairs and that car was abused as well. It sat and services performed were never paid for and Tommy didn't even ask for it back I think because it wound up being so much money. Did they each have a TR? Anyone know? I know Vince Neil had a white Countach back in '89

 

Tommy Lee had a yellow one and seeing him in action would lead me to believe that car has had some hard mileage put on it.
