    Hi People,

Didnt know where to go with this, but have a few tickets to the opera, the Met. Imj just trying to understand how does one do it?? I mean, From the hotel in Times Square, sure, you have the guy flag/arrange for a taxi (guess the bus/subway is not cool) But, I imagine once the show is done, there will be a crowd of a few hundred jockeying for the say, 20 taxis available? Should that be a problem?

Also, do the taxis drop one off at the obvious "drop off" area of of Colombus Av or from Amsterdam Av?
    Thanks!

    Pip

I used to walk back to my apartment on 57th street, but I never noticed a crowd waiting for cabs. Some people have radio cars pick them up. Some hail cabs right at the Met. Most people seem to walk a few blocks and get a cab on Broadway or Columbus Ave. Lincoln center is a major transportation hub, the area is loaded with restaurants hotels and theatures. Broadway always has cabs on it, there are several subway and bus lines

Thanks, Doug. Good to know this before going there. Did you enter the building from Amsterdam Av or colombus?

    Thanks

When the show lets out at the Met, there will be a frenzy of people getting cabs out front. But all the cabbies know when the shows let out at Lincoln Center, so there are literally hundreds of cabs hawking fares right out there. If you go out and walk up Broadway just a little bit, you should be able to get a cab without too much of a problem. Or walk across 64th Street to Central Park West.

If it's a nice evening, walk down Broadway to Columbus Circle, wander around the Time Warner building, and maybe try to get into the late night show at Dizzy's CocaCola Club at Jazz at Lincoln Center. It's a fun way to have a night cap and spectacular views. And getting a cab out front later on is easy.

And if you are staying in the Times Square area, Blue Fin is a great restaurant, and go up to the 7th Floor lobby of the W and have a chocolate martini at the lobby bar.

Im back, Steve. Thanks for your help. Yeah, weather was rainy and 48 degrees. Having learned quick (after 2 days there), we ran to the 66th St subway. Worked out great. We had crummy seats, and its hot up there as heat rises. But Carmen was excellent. We always avoid being rude running out before the final curtain (at operas in general, not that weve been at the Met before).
Now that Im back in FL, weather is getting nice in NY and cold front is here in Fl!!! LOL

    Thanks,
    Steve.

Yeah, cold front in Florida -- "Oh Honey, there's a cold front coming. It's going to be in the high 60's, low 70's. We better get out the winter coats and turn on the heat." Gimme a break... cold front. Come back up here in mid-January, then talk to me about cold fronts. LOL

Glad you had a good time in NYC and at the Met. Cheers.
