They stopped racing Escorts in the early 80's.... E-Sports - I think it depends on your age group. Those of us over 60 - meh, not for me. Over 40 - ? 20-30 - probably grew up on it so it's ok?
Saw the Indy Car Watkins Glen sim race yesterday. Okay, but its a novelty that is going to wear thin if the crisis goes on too much longer. Tried to see the NASCAR Texas sim race but it was not broadcast in the Miami market. The complaint I saw about it was "a wreck and caution every 5 laps", all this. My reply of course, "How is this different from the real NASCAR?". BHW
I totally forgot about it. Saw the highlight reel, and it was good to see a gamer win. If y'all think it's just video games, see what some of the tournaments pay out. sjd
Nascar Richmond today. Indycar Motegi yesterday was pretty good. All you naysayers...it's a thing... https://www.foxnews.com/auto/foxs-virtual-texas-nascar-esports-record
NFL games, NHL games...lotsa reruns in many sports. I watch the 1st couple laps of iRacing....many crashes, no injuries, still boring.
033's just confirming there are those that can say "esports. we've been assimilated." 'You mean to say you haven't joined the club? Good for you. Anyone for some soylent green??? Yum-yum. It's a thing too.....
What has payout to do with whether or not it's a game? Golf is a game and pays pretty good. A sport to you? Okay, how about poker tournaments? I presume it's a sport too, just because of big payouts? Quite contrary as a matter of fact, prior to IRL, NASCAR CoT, BoPing in sportscars; back when auto racing (the sport, not the advertising info-show), the payout wasn't very much at all. (fer instance, the Can Am's HUGE (for the time) payouts were a whopping $25,000 per race). Yes it's just a video GAME. Noone's in a car, feeling the Gs, contact patch, slip angles, vibrations, etc. Amazing.....and sadly......assimilated indeed.
Auto racing still doesn't pay, it only takes. and yes, all those are sports. Image Unavailable, Please Login It's all sport, sport. sjd

(I know you can simulate on a mega buck machine, but it's still just that....simulation....not real. Hell, at least my last racing endeavor (r/c racing), on a smaller scale, involved a real vehicle incorporating the same real physics as a full size race car, not just "virtual". Amazing.....and sadly......assimilated indeed....... (or, just clueless?) Just go hit a decent rental kart track for a half hour stint; not just putzing around, but actually going for it (good one's give ya' your lap times printout to compare), and come back explaining how sim racing would give you that same feeling feeling of satisfaction (and aching body). If you think it does, then you weren't focused and trying hard enuff............
Sitting and moving cards around is sport? You don't "play" auto racing. You don't play boxing. you don't play track and field. You don't play swimming. Plug in any real sport you wish. Any of the above sitting and "playing" on a monitor, is. Assimilation? Maybe. Or, like I said, "clueless". To each his own, of course.
I'm very familiar with how they work, I take my own helmet, and if they'd weight bias my 6'3" 210 lb self vs. those 150 lbs kids, I'd probably podium more. Do you want my Karting CV? Next you'll be saying electric karts aren't fun. sjd
'Ain't fooling me. But that's okay. Like I said, to each his own. Git your jollies watching video games. I'll go shoot some pool.... (btw, I'd swap my old assorted clubs, SCCA, and IMSA "CVs" with ya, but I won't; 'got nothing to prove to you)
Naaahhhh. This guy's not into being indoctrinated/assimilated. I still live my life according to values learned prior to "A Brave New World", "Animal Farm", and "1984"..... 'Glad I was born long before them becoming a reality. (video games too...)
I love racing too much to watch a simulation. 'Pretty good' and 'better than nothing' are meaningless to me. I'll take nothing over fake any day.
