I guess I should go back to my FPR?
Do I get this right... Your going on a YEAR of trying to identify the same problem with no positive results yet? Email me when you have time to work on the car and can follow through on Every step I give you. Enough of this shotgun approach, now your missing the best driving season of the year... for the second year in a row.... that doesnt fly!!
A hearty tip of the hat to "davehelms" for helping a Ferrari owner who is at loggerheads with a mechanical problem!
The guy is fantastic. We have already pushed the diagnostic into a completely different direction, one that i suspected but got side-tracked as an amateur. I will try to explain later when we are further along so that others will not fall into the same trap.
Yes, Davehelms is really a good person. He helped during my fuel pump issue. I can't wait to hear what's up with your car...keep us posted.
Here is an interim update on what I found under the tutelage of Dave Helms. The fuel pumps sleeves were completely disintegrated and blocking a major portion of the fuel pumps internal filters. However the real problem is shown in the first pic. The internal connector was cracked and the other connector was disconnected (second pic). Look carefully at the top connector in the pic. It was immediately after removing the fuel pump. This connector was disconnected and the other one was cracked. I am collecting replacement parts with the help of Daniel. More to come. Here are some pics of the sleeves (or lack thereof) and the silent block which sits under the pump and acts as an insulator and cushion. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Wow, that is deteriorated. I am sure that was a lot of work. Are you going to check the other side too? How many miles do you have on your car?
Oh boy. I will definetely drop the pumps when I drop the engine after Mondial Palooza. That is pretty ugly and I already found out that if I get below 1/4 tank I get a light and all sorts of troubles. I probably shouldn't wait now that I think of it but as long as the tank is above half our car runs strong. Dave
Odometer shows 52k but its less. I ran for some time with the speed sensor sending double to the speedometer. It's probably about 50k. No big deal; difference is minimal. I bought the car with 40k on it in 2009. It had been sitting for a long time, about 5 years in a garage. Yes the other side was working well but I expect more or less the same deterioration. Just finding this and moving forward has improved my overall mood considerably. I went out for a nice meal tonight however the smell of gasoline was hard to get off even though I wore gloves the whole operation. Just as a side point when you empty the tank, wear safety glasses because the gas splashes slightly and if you are down there waiting for your recipient to fill it will get your eyes. NOT GOOD!
I found all kinds of pieces of the fuel pump sleeves in the fuel pump drain plug and in the gas that I drained. I filtered the gas as I placed it in the gas recipients. Tiny specs to pieces the size of fingernails. It was interesting that the hollow drain plug had trapped a large numbers of pieces. Just as a side note, my gas gauge was slightly above empty and I removed 8 gallons. Crazy. Ghost busters suits are a must!
You know there is a post on 348 with the same issue but his pump had failed. Can you get parts to rebuild that? I remember reading the 348 post saying there were available to rebuild the unit. Keep us posted and I hope you will be driving soon!
I think he may be talking about this thread. http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=224988 I should have actually titled it "fuel pump resleave". It's just a Bosch pump Randy. Amazon has 2 of them for sale for $98 http://www.amazon.com/Bosch-69535-Original-Equipment-Replacement/dp/B000BZGHOM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1349052923&sr=8-1&keywords=bosch+fuel+pump+0580254011 Snatch those bad boys up!!!
YEAH BUDDY! Now all we need is to source what other manufactures uses the same fuel pump vibration dampening sleeves. And IF they can be bought in Viton.
For the 3.2, it looks like the fuel pump is Bosch 69532, as opposed to 69535 for the t. Doesn't help with the vibration dampener. Like Ferrari's don't vibrate! Really! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I spent a little time looking but found nothing. I have ordered those from Daniel. For the Mondi 3.2 the sleeves are a different diameter so you need to give that info before buying the sleeves. My Mondi T (1990) fuel pumps(Bosch 0580254011) are 60mm (2 and 3/8") in diameter. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I pulled the pumps out of the extra tank today. I have good news, and I have bad news Porph. The good news is, the fuel supply fittings I have are in good shape. No cracks. The bad news is, the fuel supply line is not. Rusted up pretty good, so I dunno if it's usable? I have 'um if you want 'um Randy. Just let me know bro. Just curious. Is it sensible to move the pumps outside of the tanks? I understand they are a little noisy and there isn't a lot of room for them but I am wondering what you guys think. Seems like most of the debris came from the rubber ring. Why not get that outta there? Dave
sorry if this has been pointed in following posts but the 'grease' is actually a dielectric paste to stop corrosion and enhance heat transfer between the ignition module and its heat sink
