Good evening guys. I would like to ask you if anyone knows the exact differences between the Ferrari Enzo and Maserati MC12. I believe that it's more than visual differences. I would really appreciate it if anyone could help.

    Thank you in advance.

I think this question is 10 years too late ;)

For a start the MC12 is less powerful at 620 hp.

How: Bit of fancy mapping (or less fancy, in this case)
Why: Can't have the sister car from their 'lesser' company car having more power.

The MC12 apparently has a bit more downforce so round a track was already as fast if not faster at certain tracks...If it had the same power it would be a bigger difference really.

IIRC the basic chassis/suspension is all the same (everything underneath the body, basically). The body was changed in an attempt to win at the FIA GT1 class, which was through blatant cheating IMO.

Either way, I quite liked the MC12 GT's, the one thing I never cared much for was that hideous wing on the street MC12. Could've designed something much better in an afternoons work. There where a few cars (re)painted in different from white and blue, which where quite nice.

Also the rear lights seemed like an afterthought.

I guess that the differences between them must be bigger than that. Actually both cars don´t have the same wheelbase.

    Please, elaborate this.

The front and rear overhang was too long (creating extra downforce) and the car was too wide. It was designed completely outside the spirit of the rules. It was rejected at first, but overturned in the end and it completely owned the series that year (almost double the points of the next competitor).

You are right that the Enzo is shorter, so I'm wrong in saying it's identical underneath. The Chassis certainly is. Difference is 150mm so most likely the front end is a little longer.

The suspension is completely Maserati as is most of the car. I know that much.

MC12's have steel brakes instead of the carbon brakes on the Enzo. Engine, chassis and gearbox are the same. They also share the same windshield.

Oh, you were talking about the spirit of the rules. Then I agree with you: the MC12 was an "homologation car", the most elemental cheat of GT races. Although as far as I know, it was within the letter of the law.

The MC12 is running a detuned Enzo engine. But i think it has better aero. Last time it lapped the Top Gear track, it was faster.

However, take into account the TG times means nothing.

The camshafts on the Enzo are driven with chains and the MC12 has them gear driven! (like that very much!!)

There is no stupid question nor do questions have an expiration date. I would rather have a MC12 than an Enzo.

    Ewe or Ram?

I'm pretty sure, Enzo and MC12 have, in the real world, the same HP output.
according with EVO megatest, MC12 is more than 100 Kgs heavier than Enzo, and surely has also higher drag.
despite, about 0-250 Kph, MC12 (autbild) is just 1s slower than Enzo (AMuS)

    right!
    more differences:
    MC12 is much more bigger
fixed rear wing (no mobile spoiler)
less (claimed) ps: 632 vs 660
    no composite brakes
Pzero Corsa (oh yeah) vs Bridgestone Scuderia (puah!)
    open top
    more comfortable gearshifts

    Ciao Mafalda,
The F140 engine have been revised in the MC12 because in the Maserati the F140 continuos variable geometry inlet manifold is missing.
The MC12 had FIA GT fixed intake restrictor so all timing gear have been revised as well the Engine ECU. RPM limit was 7700 rpm.
MC12 had no active front flaps (and no active rear spoiler as you wrote)
MC12 had no Boge Skyhook suspensions like the Enzo (Sensors + ECU to adjusts in real time the shock absorber valves and so the settings) but standard shock absorbers.

Thats the main reason for its fast track times! The Bridgestone is just not the best tire! Sadly, last Year there was no Pzero available...

The Enzos with the Pzero are said to drive much better!

Can't explain why but, I think today I'd purchase an MC12 over an Enzo.

    Just a beautiful car.

this is a good summary to review. also as a mc12 owner one of the more appealing points to me was that there a 8X fewer mc12's vs the enzo and there is no comparison with regards to the racing history between the two cars.
