    Often here on FChat somebody quotes Enzo Ferrari having said "The engine is the Ferrari. I throw in the car for free" or something similar.

    Enzo said many things and I find them recited in books and articles, but I have never seen this one quoted anywhere. Does anybody have a source for this?

    I raised this question before and somebody said it was written in the 2nd chapter (which is all about Enzo's life) of "The Piranha Club", but it is not in there (just reread the whole chapter). I would really love to find this quote, so I'm offering $ 50 for the first who can send me a copy/fax of this quote in print (in a article or book of course).

    I think the correct wording is something like "You pay for the engine, I'll provide the coach for free."

    Like many EF quotes, I think this one is an urban legend. I have heard it but never seen it precisely quoted anywhere.

    Another legend is the answer to the customer who complained about the paltry manual and documentation on his Ferrari: "We make cars here, not books!".

    That's exactly why I'd like to find out.

    OTOH the famous quote about the ox in front of the carriage in reference to front mounted engines is no legend. I found that one in a book. So there is hope.
