Guys, I have noticed, that on idle, the whole back of my 355 is shaking a little bit. I'm not sure of this is normal, or my engine bushes are gone. Is this normal and if not - should I consider it as a serious problem?

    Not normal.

Sounds like it's either the motor mounts, or the gearbox mounts.

Is it a comlicated job to replace these and will anything happen if I don't replace them until the winter?

No, nothing will happen. It will just vibrate like hell. The engine and transaxle mounts both are bracketed and rest over the top of the rubber mounts. If the mounts totally fail (mine have once...engine mounts up front) the consequence is the bracket rests on metal instead of rubber. Hence....VIBRATION!!

Of course in my case, it was a case of low compression in 2 cylinders on each bank, and now I find I need valve guides, which I'm doing now. I had a major burnt valve too.

I have actually just changed the valve guides with the upgrated titanium ones. I will see what I will do about the vibrations when the winter comes then. Now it's time to drive :L)

Not complicated at all, I'd order a set and do them this weekend if I were you. Very easy job.

Well, I suppose your car is producing so much compression and HP that's it's shaking it's tail off. Replacing the tranny mounts is no biggy, just remember the whole 'arm' attached to the gearbox comes out. You're just supporting the gearbox with a jack, not lifting it.

Easy just loosen all mounts, undo two at a time lift engine and transmission install new mounts. Could take a few hours I would change them this way if something else goes wrong you will feel or hear it as well. I don't like driving something that's partly broke but that's just me.

Of course , me too. I try to keep my car perfect, it's just that the weather here just has straighten up (after 2 months of rain) and I really want to start to drive the car as much as I can and not lose time for repairs. But I will follow everyone's advices and see if I can fix that in the following weeks.

diagnose the root cause (or at least rule out likely causes) before throwing time and parts at the car.

Maybe I was not clear, definately put a jack under and lift engine and transmission to see if they are broken, damaged, pounded out first. Sorry I didn't specify.

Determine if it's a mounting issue or engine issue (Hang some paper over the tailpipe). ;)

Funny thing... I have driven the car today a little - no shacking like this at all. I mean - the engine shakes a little bit, but the car doesn't move too much. Last time, when the problem occured, it was after a hard drive. However I will take it to a mechanic next week to see the mounts.

When my engine mounts went really bad there was a loud clunking sound when i operated the gear lever...

The sound of the gear rod banging on a subframe rail as the engine had dropped a few mm's....

Those mounts get hot and if oil is seeping from somewhere they can get oily
Oil, heat on rubber ...not good.

Transmission mounts last a lot longer
