ok, so I guess this may seem minor, but it's irritating.

I'd like to replace the washers on the engine panels, it's a cosmetic item and they look beat.

They are conical/spring black (oxide?) washers, wider than normal M6 washers, basically a small, conical fender washer.

Can't find this anywhere, so, I go get OEM ones from Ferrari. They send me part #1264178.

They come in, they are flat washers, with an M5 hole and don't even fit around the M6 screws. Apparently Ferrari changed the spec and what they supply now no longer fits. Dealer parts tells me this is the spec as it's always been, I sent the pic, they're checking, haven't heard back.

Anyone have any suggestions on where to find something similar to OEM? I've tried McMaster, Grainger, can't find black non-rusting washer with an M6 ID and 20mm OD.

I think they're rounded out by vibration. They probably start life as flat washers. I took off a panel on my car recently and some of them were rounded out pretty good while others were nearly flat. Those panels are pretty thin but I'm betting they resonate well enough and at times, can have some force at the attachment points. There's a lot of acoustic energy floating around the engine bay. Just my theory anyway.

Fair enough John, think you may be right looking at the panels, I thought the recess was more curved, looks like the washers have just bent in.

Thought I read somewhere that the spec on the washer indicated they were conical but can't find it.

That said, the ones supplied by Ferrari have an ID that is too small.

Does the coupe have only M5 screws maybe? on the spider, there are 12 M6, and 4 M5 screws at the bottom.

Knowing that I'm looking for flat ones now, I should be able to find something.

    Thanks again for your insights!

If you want conical washers start with flat washers, put them on a vice with the vice jaws spaced just right, or on a properly sized nut, seat the bolt, and hammer it until the washer is conical. Or, use a tapered punch of the appropriate size. What is so hard about that?

About the "Ferrari" washers with an id too small. Drill it out to the size that you need. Again, What is so hard about that?

Ordering parts from Ferrari can be frustrating. I found multiple times that the PN for the rubber plugs under the car are incorrect or have changed and same thing with all the bolts for the panels. Best to buy a grab bag of parts from the dismantlers. Or tell them what you are trying to get and see if they are willing to sort bolts.

I don't believe they are supposed to be conical, mine are mint, all the washers are totally flat.

Actually, I think they have the large black Fender washer and a silver small wavy washer. If you are missing the wavy washers that could be the issue with destroying the fender washers, it also means you may have to tighten down your washers too much to keep things from vibrating.

Sorry I don't have a better pic, the Ferrari is on the top of the lift while I wait for my interior door locks to come back from refinishing. This is a bad screenshot of a zoomed-in pic, but you can clearly see the wavy washer.

Hmm, not spec'ed in the diagram

    Good to know, thank you

Of course I could make just about anything, and in this case probably will, wasn't my point

Thanks all for the info and perspective

I don’t have a wavy washer but mine are flat. Wouldn’t make sense to have a conical washer without a tapered bolt.

You're right they don't show it in the diagram, but they do list it in the parts. My guess is they originally didn't have a wavy washer and they added it later in production then didn't update the diagram just the parts list. If you look at part 67584200, it's the wavy washer. Took a while to find a picture online to confirm this. I found the earlier part number picture here and then it linked to the new part number. https://www.ferrariparts.co.uk/part/ferrari/12620374?id=123272

I just ordered the same bolts & washers for my 360 from Eurospares, they just shipped. Wonder if they will be wrong size also.

How about these? Almost 20mm OD

    Thank you

Since I didn't get a straight answer from Ferrari and my package arrived open, and they said maybe they packaged the wrong ones, I ordered from eurospares as well.

Eurospares sent same exact ones, so if your bolts/screws are M6, prob won't fit. Appreciate if you let me know what you find. Thank you

I replaced a bunch of mine and I think the old ones being rounded out is correct. I put new flat ones in and they were fine. They can also be bent from over tightening.

I got mine from ricambi that time I think and they were fine.

Right. I thought that the talk was about countersunk washers like those used in some parts of the interior. My mistake. The discussion was about flat washers

black oxide will rust like crazy immediately.

black zinc (no longer used) will last forever...

I bet they were flat washers, black zinc originally.

Modena and Spider use different hardware. What you pictured was for Modena. The Spider uses a lighter gauge, smaller diameter washer in 6mm that distorts into a conical shape when installed.

You might want to look into black Polyetheretherketone (aka 'PEEK') washers. The engine panels probably don't need a ton of clamping force. McMaster sells them. They will never rust.
