2002 Ferrari 360 spider / F1 with Tubi NGT and Hyperflow cats (installed atleast over a year ago) I posted a couple of days ago that the emission warning light came on. I read through some threads and spoke to a couple of people and they thought it was most likely my gas cap was not on tight enough (which I agree). The light came on after dark and the temp was around 55 degrees (for south fla that is cooooold). I started the car and waited around a minute or so before I put the car in reverse and drove off. A buddy has a code reader and we retrieved the code and then reset it. The light is off so far and the code was P0431 = Warm Up Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2). should I have any worries ???
is the O2 sensor installed in the forward or rearward port on the hyper flow cats? I looked on my ECU error codes, but my table doesn't show that error code. If the CEL is back off, that's probably a good sign though. Ray
The P0431 code is correct as you list in your post. This would indicate that the post-cat O2 sensor is detecting an exhaust gas mix which is outside of the limits set for a properly functioning system. Most likely, the post-cat sensor has an issue, however, it also could be what it says it is which is that the converter went bad. (Not likely.) The warm-up cat, I believe is also called the CCC or close-coupled-catalyst. This is the cat right after the manifold. Unfortunately, I can't recall which side of the engine is bank 2. I think passenger side, but I am not confident.
Bank two is the drivers side and this type of cel is triggered by the sport cats or test pipes installed.
I think that code can get thrown if the cat ECU(s) are starting to show their age. They are located pretty close to the cats and muffler and are subject to some pretty high heat. Your car is almost 11 MYs old. My service manager told me that as the cars get older, sometimes the cat ECUs start to not perform as they should. They seem to be a fairly easy thing to replace though.
My experience is that when you take out the cats you Will get a cel as there are no cats, TaDa!.....Lol. The gases are different as there's no cat to clean up the emissions. As soon as I put test pipes in...Bam cel not even 200 miles later. O2 extenders do not work as I have the best ones and nothing...waste of $$. You must get your ecu(s) tunes in order to avoid this nag, period! I have my ecu(s) tuned and Mase Engineeringis working on getting the line of code needed to remove this Nag. We'll have it licked by the time I return into the country I'm sure. Will post results soon
