I need to give my engine bay a bit of a spruce up but I'm worried about using products that will damage the clear coat on the carbon.

Can someone recommend something I can use that's not going to run my nice shiny engine bay trim?

I use Autosmart G101, this is whats called as a " APGC / APC ", or " All Purpose General / Cleaner ", its water based so safe to use on carbon fibre etc. Even though most of these cleaners are water based, be carefull, they are strong when not diluted, so follow the dilution guidelines Tom.
Most detailing sites will stock an APC - have a look on the Cleanyourcar website?
Always saturate the entire area to be cleaned, because if it runs down a dry panel and is left, it will slightly discolour the paint. Sometimes its better to soak a microfibre and then clean?
You can use these cleaners for grubby interiors too, but again, always saturate the entire area to be cleaned.
As always when sprucing up the engine bay just watch out for electrical connections.
Have a good arsenal of brushes for the engine bay Tom so you can reach those hard to get to areas, ( if the brush has metal to clamp the soft bristles, wrap masking tape around this as it can scratch the paint).

PS - Once you have cleaned the engine bay, most of the rubber and plastic will need some form of dressing applied, this will protect and give a nice finish. Again most detailing sites will stock plastic and rubber dressing sprays.
PPS - best to tape off or protect the exterior of the car with plastic dust sheets, as i said, you dont want any cleaner on the exterior paint.
