I took my 575M to Cars & Coffee this morning and it drove like a charm on the way there. The car sat for a little over two hours and I then left to take it home. On the way back, when I pressed on the accelerator, the engine seemed to bog down and wouldn’t accelerate normally. When I started in 1st gear, it was as if I couldn’t get enough RPM’s to get a good clutch engagement and, as I went through the gears, the entire ride was like trying to accelerate with the brakes on.

When I got home, I turned the car off for two minutes (or less) and restarted it to put it in the garage. Upon restart, it was back to normal, engaged 1st gear correctly and was responsive. I think this happened once before and I didn’t realize it as an anomaly. Today, I took note.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? Many thanks in advance for your advice!

My 575 had a similar problem on a couple of occassions (felt as if it were running on 6 cylinders). I eventually realized that my battery was failing and apparently was not supplying enough current to the ECUs. The new battery has transformed her. Not only has the problem not occurred again but performance is more aggressive overall. I hope that your fix is this simple!

Another cause could be blocked fuel filters or damaged (squeezed) fuel line. Can have no effect at idle but strangle the engine (one or both sides) under load. Turning off can sometimes dislodge the blockage slightly but it will come back.
    Check the simple things first.

2000 550 and I have had the same issue half a dozen times over the last three years. Dealer has never found an issue.

First time my 550 did that I was very concerned. Stopped short of ordering the one option the car didn't come with - a flat bed.

Next day let the car cycle through check engine procedure. fired t up and it was fine.

My tech and the GM tell me it's a common problem and it's an ECU issue - not limited to the vintage. While I was in the showroom they had the same problem with 430. Go figure - its a Ferrari not a Porsche

In an abundance of caution I was always wait now for the car to cycle through check engine before starting.

Most likely! Disconnect the battery for a few minutes and then start the engine when it is cold. Let it idle for 10 minutes with the AC off.
Then drive the car and try to do a couple of full load curves on the engine, e.g. 3rd gear 2000 to 7000 rpm, full throttle.
This will reset the ECU's corrective mapping.

Is this the "re-learn" process we should use on the M2.7 456? Is second gear okay? 3rd will put me over 100MPH.... 2nd's only about 75mph.....Thanks

    ....Good excuses either way....

It is indeed the re-learn process. I say 3rd gear because you cannot floor the accelerator (100% load) in 2nd gear without spinning the tires. You can do the 50% load curve in 2nd.
