    Ford, BMW, Volkswagen, Tesla and other automakers are eliminating AM radio from some new vehicles, stirring protests against the loss of a medium that has shaped American life for a century...

    Automakers, such as BMW, Volkswagen, Mazda and Tesla, are removing AM radios from new electric vehicles because electric engines can interfere with the sound of AM stations. And Ford, one of the nation’s top-three auto sellers, is taking a bigger step, eliminating AM from all of its vehicles, electric or gas-operated.

    I grew up with a.m. radio used to listen to talk shows on WBZ out of Boston, Larry Glick, Bob Raleigh, Norm Nathan. Also remember as a youth my buddy had a car with only a.m. radio and when Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty would get played that was the jam because that was about the best it got LOL.

    At least on Tesla's you can stream any AM station, from anywhere, with far better sound quality.

    Was announced today that Ford is going to keep AM radio because of the emergency alert system. I expect the others will fall in line because of that.

    My 2017 NSX came without AM and I was like, is it such a big expense?
    I stream Simple Radio to get my AM Sports Radio fix.
    For the most part I just listen to the sounds of the car, so not a big deal.
    My 2021 Lexus LC 500 Convertible and 2022 Lucid Air both have AM.

    I have not heard AM radio in ages (30+ years). How many people still listen to it, meaning is it something that car manufacturers should still include (business bottomline)? I still listen to FM radio when driving, but at home it’s Pandora, Apple Music, …

    The best talk radio is on the AM stations. In NY 710 AM is the most listened to station in morning drive time in the nation. It Blows FM station audience numbers away. NPR also transmits in AM and has a very large audience. 770 AM NY audience is also huge.

    millions listen to AM radio for conservative talk. eliminate AM = no more conservative talk. but of course Ford/Ford Foundation would love this.
