Hello Folks! As the deal is 99.9% done .. My excitement level is at the peak .. start looking into shipment methods from NY - ATL ... couple of thoughts come into mind .. Let me FIRST search the FChat forum - "Enclosed vs. Open", "Enclosed", "Shipping" - and I see nothing that has a comparison of two .. there was a post from March about the guy RECORDEd everything so he was covered - So, I decided to post this here - I am super excited to get this car to ATL quickly! The car will be ready - Nov 12th - Need it to get to ATL before Nov 16th. I have 2 options - Open Trailer - Richardson Trucking - (I got his number from the FChat Thread) - BUT I am scared about Open Trailer - 900 miles .. He did say that he hauls R8s etc - and will put a cover on the car ... Is this even a viable/safe option? I personally have never seen a ferrari on an open trailer. Second choice: Ofcourse - ENCLOSED but the car won't be here for 2 weeks .. I wanted the car here before the 16th because there is a huge car show - last car show of the year .. HELP ME with the PROs and CONs of Open vs. Enclosed shipping methods ... Thanks in advance ... and of course - PLEASE send me anyone's # that can provide a sweet deal to get the car home. Pictures coming soon ...
Know anyone who can hook you up on Central Dispatch? Closed is the way to go... Open will leave you vulnerable to road debris, bugs, rocks, weather ,etc... NOT recommended for a Ferrari (family DD, yes). Central Dispatch will have trucks available pretty much daily, but you have to be registered with them as a transporter, dealer, etc...
Have you tried Intercity? They're a sponsor here. They transported my 360 from Mass. to Il. enclosed trailer - no problems. 8/2013 around a $1k. You might get a snowstorm or rain etc.
Enclosed if you can is best although dealers transport new cars from ports of entry to the dealership routinely on open car carriers. I think the key is protection of the car be it a cover or the plastic panel covers on the high end cars for open transport to dealerships.
Intercity - $7k if I want it before Sunday $1395 - 2 weeks delivery time Open Trailer - $900 - Car cover - Delivered in the next 3 days... VERY TEMPTING. I did have a friend put it up on Central dispatch for $1k .. Let's say if anyone bites...
i assume this is not a POS.... i would not cut corners be very careful using brokers.... ship open at your own risk.... it will likely be on a multi car carrier. ive have used uship for run of the mill stuff with good luck
I've always heard and logic tells me it's correct, NEVER cover a car transported on an open trailer. The dust and grime that gets under the cover, and it will, gets ground into the paint just as if you washed your car with a dirty sponge. Transport enclosed if you can. There's always another show to enjoy. Why take a chance?
Enclosed!!! I watched an open trailer go down my tree lined street with branches and leaves flying everywhere, do you want your car to arrive in good shape? Go with Intercity and wait!!
Don't let your excitement cloud your judgment. Enclosed!!! Otherwise, you might as well fly to NY and drive it back.
It's against FDOT rules to cover a car during transport. For a grand you should be able to find a carrier to fit your time frame. Need to get it picked up in the next day or two though to make the show. 7K is ludicrous.

I would not do open trailer! I am sure there will be many more car shows to attend. Take your time, do it right... Jes
Actually the more I read this the more I think you should fly up and drive it down. It's not a hard drive straight down I95. I flew to Palm beach South Fl to pick up my Aston Martin DB and drove it back to MD in 1.5 days. Heck I even drove clear cross country twice in my SL55 AMG from MD to Cali and back in just over 3 days. If you want the car fast and need to make this big car show you seem to need to go to then it's the best way! Bring red bulls
You will get a call from one of the drivers on Central. You will get the attention over the others as it is a Ferrari (cool car to transport), plus they will try to dicker for a few extra $$. It's been my experience that a truck will be headed south and they will get a last min cancellation which will spark a last min call to you. If you really want the attention and a quick responce, bump your offer a couple of hundred....
Car is located at Ferrari Maserati of Long Island, NY .. Who is Bradan? Could I get the contact details.
If the car is on the island contact Plycar/Plycon. They're a very reputable moving/car hauling company Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Just called Dan - He is going to set up a call with his mover. Let's hope this can be worked out quickly. Thanks Juan.
