I have a U.S. 2005 430 spider which I recenlty had a major service performed on it. I suppose that the dealer had to disconnect the battery from what I've heard from them. I need to get an emissions test done and I have run an OBD II test on it. The test says the car is not ready. I have never had a check engine light on in the 2 years that I have owned it. Two years ago when I got the car it passed an emissions test no problem. The car runs perfect. The OBD II test is telling me that the catalyst is not ready and evap system is not ready. Everything else is ready according to the test. I have only driven the car about 50 miles since the major service. Any ideas on how to get these two things ready so I can get the Connecticut emissions test done before my upcoming deadline? I spoke to a tech about it and he suggested just drive it more around 55 mph.

I usually take a drive on the freeway after resetting the monitors and it typically takes close to 50 miles to reset them all. Several short trips totaling 50 miles isn't the same. If there are any minor issues it may not set a check engine light but it won't set the monitor either.

Thank you very much for this information. I will try to do a 50 mile non stop trip this weekend.

Wow that seems like a real pain in the neck. I guess I can try this and the 50 mile drive that Rifledriver suggested.

Can these things just be turned on with an SD3 if I take it in to my shop?

no they can NOT be set with SD3, I wish...would have made my life easy 2+ years ago.

Since you have a 430, I would expect no problems and a good long drive should set them with no issues, the drive cycle is a major pain but turns them on with less miles. Its a Ferrari, DRIVE IT and set them with a good drive. I have been told its a combination of freeway miles and around town driving that you need but others say on the 430 just a simple drive on the freeway works.

On my ODBII tester there is a menu items for emissions readyness test.

a super PITA! I Tool my car on a 400 mile trip and then 400 miles back and it still wasn't reset. You need to keep the rpms constant, etc. It's such a joke as the car blows relatively low amounts of emissions

That worked the catalyst is now ready and my OBD2 app says the car is now ready for an emissions test. I drove 46 miles at 2600 rpm. Thank you.

I too follow this instruction and got Cat readiness to check. But only to get P0422 cat efficiency after the run. Clear with reader and immediate get P0432 for the other bank! 2001 euro spider with recent oem racing exhaust installed and new O2 on both banks / pre and post. Anything else I can try?

I printed this out just in case but I got all my monitors to turn on including these 2 hard ones but just a good long drive at constant rpm. Passed the CT emissions test no problems.

Would you care to share with us what OBDII tester you are using.

    This is correct.

I had the exact same problem about a month ago. Took my car to SMOG test which is required every 2 years here in CA. They couldn't read anything. Your record must have been erased when the dealer disconnected the battery. My mechanic had to find a spot that they could keep my car driven at 2000 - 3000 RPM for 5 straight minutes or something to get in the system. Passed the SMOG test like nothing.
