I found my number plate lights were inop. and of course, I dutifully R&Rd the bulbs, even though the filaments looked intact. Still in the dark, I found the number plate power lead running down the right side of the engine boot lid had been pinched by the lid, severing the wire.

Fortunately, the break occurred near the quick disconnect plugs near the boot hinge point.
Now to restore the connection it would be best if I could reconnect the severed end to a new terminal end and reinsert it into the quick disconnect plug.

My question is where do I find such small, minor electrical components to match the existing hardware? I'd love to cut both ends and start over with off the shelf connectors, but I don't have much free wire to deal with and I would prefer to keep it original.

I've tried looking through the parts book through Ricambi, but I think this connector is too small an item to locate in the parts manual.

Try calling someone like T. Rutlands or GT Car Parts that parts cars out.

If its the same as the connector on my 328 its a single pin 6.3mm blade connector:

    VWP - multiconnectors

This in the UK but the description might help to search locally.

I have successfully done this type of job several times. It is fairly easy to get the old terminal out of the connector housing by using a tiny flat screw driver.

Once again. Excellent information from FChatters! I may solder first and look into Rock Auto for replacement parts. This internet thing is so cool....

Mine came undone from the connector as you can see from the pic, the wire is down below. I removed the terminal from the plastic housing and reconnect or recrimp the wire, now it's good again. If your wire became too short, you can always splice another wire to make it longer.

The connector shown in the picture is a "Tyco Fastin-Faston" single terminal type with 6.3 crimp connectors, should be easy and cheap to source.

The 6.3mm connectors are euro shells for AMP quarter-inch blade connectors.

I just went whole hog and order the big multi-connector kit:
    Blade Connectors
(Probably the same kit as referenced above, with the US importer's mark-up, and translated to USD.)

That let me connectorize the new stereo with original style connectors.
I also use them for a lot of other things, too.
Pretty good crimp tool in that kit, too.
