    This is for a friend.

His e-gear light keeps coming on and going off.

The car drives fine. 13k miles,

About a week ago, the car would not start when the light came on. The tow truck driver pushed it back a foot to put it on the truck and bam started right up. No light. weird..

Before he trucks it 3+ hours away and all that entails. Is there any trouble shooting measures he can take?

Or any advice what so ever.

    Thanks in advance.

There are a number of things that can go wrong and set off the light, the two most common are the clutch position sensor and electric pressure pump. A faulty pump doesn't really cause the car to not start, the bad clutch position sensor will though.

Is the car believed to have the original clutch in it still, or has it been replaced. If so, does he know if the sensor was replaced also?

I was talking to a friend the other day about something similar.

The e-gear pump went out on his car. I guess it causes the car to shutoff/shutdown. It also leaves the car in gear. This can really suck if you are on the side of the road, because you cannot even get it onto a trailer.

I wonder if by pushing it, you were able to get the car into neutral, which is what allowed it to start... (likely, if it was in gear as I suspected in the beginning, then it probably won't let the car start)

I believe there is a relay that tends to go bad on these cars which causes the pump to constantly run. This then causes the pump to burn out.

I think you can actually order the relay and pump for a few hundred bucks and easily have a local mechanic replace.

send a PM to Fchat user deon.smith

he is the one that had this on his car. He is very helpful and knowledgeable. He's got an 04 gallardo with like 40k miles.

Thanks.. he was able to put it in neutral (he leaves in gear to park) and roll it back, so it was able to go into e-gear before pushing it back..

    Thanks again.

if your friend has an OBBII scanner, it will read the trouble codes. A google search of the resulting codes will at least put you in the ballpark so you're not talking blindly to the service department.

Connector is difficult to find, it hides behind the lower steering column panel.
