I am very confused by all the different types of fuel hoses. I would like to find an E85 rated 5/8 hose but, I'm not sure what I'm looking at. I understand Gates Barricade Greenshield fuel hose is E85 rated but, they don't seem to make a 5/8 size.

All this ISO, SAE, CARB, A1, A2, Type this and that stuff is confusing the hell out of me. Does anyone know for sure of a particular 5/8 hose that's E85 rated?

Never mind, I think I figured it out. In case anyone is interested, it looks like ISO 7840 and SAE J5127 hose (marine fuel hose) is rated for up to E85 fuels.

But available in 5/8" size (and smaller)?

Yes, "Marine Produces International" makes a 5/8 fuel hose that meets ISO 7840 Type A2 and SAE J5127 Type A2 and is rated for ethanol fuels up to E85.

Here's a link but, the shipping is too high: http://www.wholesalemarine.com/p/MPI-350-0580/Marine+Products+Fuel+Vent+Hose+5-8

I'm hoping my local marine supply place will have it.

For the smaller sizes I'm using Gates Barricade fuel lines (rated for up to E85) and is available in most auto parts suppliers (I know O'reilly's has it).

    Consider SRI Hoses.

Just keep a very CLOSE Eye on the new stuff you put in. Even though rated for E85, there are reports of much of it going "Wet noodle" really darn quick (within a few weeks or months).

A very detailed read of both the ISO and SAE standards suggest that this is not the best choice for your specific automotive application...

I am fighing problems on recently rebuilt carbs, and my Exxon/Mobil owner flat out TOLD me last week:

"The 10% ethanol blend is destroying them, paper gaskets, rubber seals, none of it will take it!"

And then he offered his lift, to find the source of the latest spill...no fun.

So, my point is the lines are not the only problem running E85, don't do it.

So, BigTex, what does one do? I'm currently looking for a carb car, and my list of intended "upgrades" includes updating the fuel lines to accommodate modern gas. Most local "chain" gas stations around me use ethanol blend fuels. Should I expect this to rout my carbs and engine, or is there a workaround? What do all the other owners of pre-80 308's do? Thanks in advance.
