I will soon be upgrading my metric wheels for 16" wheels and I am trying to decide which tires to go with. I would apreciate your opinion on each of these tires:

    1) Dunlop Direzza

    2) Goodyear Eagle F1

I am not worried about the price since they will be on the car for a while and I want to get the best from the get go.

I do not track the car, but I like to get on it on twisty roads. I never drive it on snow or even in the rain, so I'm not worried about performance in bad weather.

How would you describe each tire, and what would you go for and why.

    Thanks!

    Frank

I've got the Dunlops, after moving to the superformance wheels. I've not driven on the Goodyears to compare, but I think the Dunlops perform well. Same as you, no tracking, but backroads. Reasonable steering feel (less than on the metric with old Michelins, but I think that may be more a function of upsizing the tires than the Dunlops themselves). They're quiet and seem to be wearing well, with 1000 miles on them. I've taken them through the rain during a drive last fall, and thought they did well, no traction issues in rain with wet leaves.

Search the archives....there was a recent thread on this very subject.

I went from the Eagle F1's to the Dunlops....here are my thoughts.

Go with the Dunlops! They are very sticky and ride great! I got caught in a brief downpour a couple weeks ago and they did just fine in the rain too.

Personally I don't think you'll go wrong either way. The Dunlops do perform slightly better when cornering at the limit in my GT4. I could feel the rear end slide out just a bit at the limit on the Eagles...not so easy on the Dunlops. They stick like glue. ;)

    FWIW, YMMV

Don't know about the eagles but the Dunlops have been great. The only negative thing I've noticed is after not driving for a few weeks while I was on vacation, the tires did have flat spots that took a mile or so to go away.

The Goodyears are not recommended for wet weather or snow driving .. but in the dry they are rated better than Dunlops. There is an Eagle GT that is an all-weather Goodyear that may be a good compromise.

1300 miles on my Dunlops and I love them. In fact I just ordered some for the Lemons car too. We're running in 10 days so I can give a track report on them soon.

To which Eagle F1s are you referring? The GS-D3 or the Assymetricals?

I have the Assymetricals but don't have any experience with the Dunlops.

If these are your two choices I'd go with the Dunlops. I also like Goodyears but they seem make a bit more noise to me. I have run both brands and both were good. Tires I'm using now are Bridgestone Potenza. 225/50ZR16 92W front, 245/45ZR16 94Y rear. I like these the best so far.
