Hello all, As my parents recently moved to Amelia Island, and I'm used to Pennsylvania Poconos, the roads in their area (FLAT and STRAIGHT) leave me wanting.... Does anyone know of any good DRIVING roads in NE florida, jacksonville/amelia area??
Scenic is about all you'll get Try A1A heading south through St. Augustine and further. http://www.byways.org/explore/byways/2477/stories/46911 http://www.byways.org/explore/byways/16199/stories/47311 http://www.dot.state.fl.us/emo/scenichwy/pdf/statewide_brochure_MASTER.pdf
The roller coaster at Disney....or head up into nooooorthern Florida....and be content with hillocks. But Florida roads do beat Alaskan beaches....though not by much....
Try the "Loop", in Ormond Beach. You can catch it off A1A just south of Flager Beach, or off 40 in Ormond Beach. Beautiful road to drive on.
Take I-10 west about an hour to I-75 North, and go north about 7 hours past Atlanta. You will find good roads starting around there, unfortunately... BT
One of the best is in your back yard. Try a moonlight cruise down Hecscher to the Sandollar and cross the Ferry to Wonderwood to 9A and back across the river over the Dames Point bridge back to Heckscher. Beware the beaches if you don't have a local address. The "Squads" love their revenue. A1A south of Ponte Vedra is another great moonlight candidate. A nice place to get a fine fish dinner is "Caps" near the "Castle Otis" almost to Vilano Beach. Oceans
My favorite drive is from Atlantic beach down A1A through St. Augustine and ending up in Palm Coast. Scenery is nice but it's no Mulholland drive. Take the ferry from the north and you can get her going on Mayport road and then over the wildwood bridge too. The Altantic Beach cops are brutal but most of 'em know my car and don't pull me over for no reason anymore.
If you go to A1A in Palm Coast take a spin around the Hammocks and check out the Ginn. Beautiful resort and golf course. I live 5 min from there.
Small world. I've got a condo in The villages of Matanzas shores. It's those three 8 story buildings on the ocean about a mile south of the Matanzas inlet. I love kayak fishing back in the Pellicer flats. Kinda glad the market took a downturn just to keep it a little desolate for a bit longer. You coming up for the 29th in Jax??
Yup, my fears are confirmed. Attached is a map highlighting one of my favourite routes up here... gotta get dad to bring the Ferrari up for a proper run. Image Unavailable, Please Login
