Daryl your table is awesome. your "barn" is truly sublime.
No, it's just a steel trowelled concrete slab that I saw cut into a 4' x 4' grid. Then I had it stained with a water based stain (can't do black with acid stains) and then topped with three coats of acrylic floor wax. I didn't want to see any heating units, registers or radiators, so I poured radiant heating tubes into the slab and hid the boiler in one of the utility rooms that flank the library nook.
Thanks Austin. The lambo engine block table was kind of a fluke. I saw the block on Ebay and thought it might make a cool table. This weekend I am going to glass bead the block and go over the head studs and cylinder liners with emery cloth so that the whole thing looks new. Then I have some LED lights I'm going to strategically locate inside it to make the whole thing glisten. (My wife thinks I'm completely insane.)
Ultimate garage? For me, an old bank barn, renovated only enough to prevent damage to the cars. No memorabilia. No TVs. No leather sofas. No fancy-pants tool chests or gaudy checkered-flag floor. Forget the matching paint scheme, too. Just the cars; let them speak for themselves.
Your garage is absolutely beautiful. I like the SIMPLE approach. My Dream garage - ????? Well 1st off I need to have nice cars to put into it. Still working on that. I have been throwing around ideas for some time in my head, and I like the old Barn look. Obviously updated though. Maybe Open Beams. Have to have an upstairs loft with all of my collectables and my library neatly organized and displayed (unlike now). Also my Red leather Recliner in front of a TV to watch F1, MOTO GP & ALMS. Walls filled with my Poster collection as well as some of my own photography, but not cluttered up to look horrible. Not sure I want to paint with bright colors. Just probably 1 small wall in Red.??? Floor is still in question.
Daryl, That is an INCREDIBLE garage! When you mentioned building a pole barn, I recalled the pole barn my dad and I built for his cars, but it was just that, a pole barn... Not a sanctuary! Great work with the seamless garages. Id still like to know where and how is the equipment?! Its puzzling me. I think the nicest touch in there is the engine block glass table. Leaps and bounds passed those cheasy chrome rim tables. Great collection of cars by the way. Cheers. Joe
Thanks Joe. If by "equipment" you mean the door hardware, they are just large swinging carriage doors hung on continous Roton hinges. I just use simple cane bolts to secure them. Very "low tech". Here is a shot during construction. Image Unavailable, Please Login
that is deffinately one of the most beautiful garages/barns I have ever seen. I really love how the inside of the garage doors are covered with morals/pictures. terrific job!! I only question that the doors look unfinished in the wood color since the rest seems to be grey.
It's a Superformance GT40. Built in South Africa from the original Ford Advanced Vehicles blueprints. I had it done with an injected Roush 302 Ford small block and ZF transaxle.
It probably would, so I have some 24" x 24" 1/8 inch masonite squares I put down if I need to use the jack and/or jack stands.
Woah. Nice... Also, it's really sad that I'm already planning/drawing out my garage since I'm 16 haha. I need new hobbies clearly.
Hi Daryl. Weren't you featured on the 50th anniversary of Autoweek? I just re-read it recently and thought I saw you... Best.
Yes, that was me. Unfortunately my wife tossed that issue out! I contacted Autoweek and they want $25 for a reprint!!! :-(
these? In all honesty, I would want my garage to be quite dark, kinda batman style with little suspended spotlights over the cars and spotlights shining out of the dark slate floor as well. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Daryl, Just came across this thread and wanted to express my congrats on a simple, clean and well laid out "garage" that says much in its simplicity of design and setting. Enjoy it in good health.
If it can help anybody, I can provide you w/ all the RAL paint codes, siez of the lines... for making your garage the same exact identical looking than a Dealer's.
