Dramatic audio caught a 21-year-old student pilot on a damaged plane being coached by a flight instructor — who offered reassuring words to help her land safely without the front wheel.

Taylor Hash took off in the single-engine Diamond Star at Michigan’s Oakland County International Airport on March 24, but lost the front wheel as she cleared the runway.

“Somebody with six hours solo and 57 total hours flight time doesn’t handle the plane like that,” Yates, the former director of aviation at SpaceX, told the outlet. “I hope all the airlines are paying attention to this kid right now.”

LOL, only 6 hours solo with 57 hours total (when eligible to solo after 8) is not exactly indicative of someone with an aptitude to be a pilot, let alone god's gift to the airlines. Not to take anything away from her performance of getting the plane down safely in a stressful situation. Lot's of lesser pilots have augered it in with much less distraction, but that comment struck me as funny.

Not to brag, but I soloed in 4 hours. Some of my buddies did, also. Remembering my instruction, with a partial or total landing gear failure you make a normal landing. Jump me if I'm "rong."

Just for comparison, when I had 57 hours I Ihad my pvt. lic. +17 hours and had flown every PT on the field. I don't want to demean anything this young lady has done but things were different 76 years ago. All tail dragger time, too. I soloed a tail dragger with no brakes and a spring leaf tail skid. I had to learn to "fly on the ground" as well as in the air.Good memories.
