My first set of original CV boots last about 9 years. They were replaced at the dealer four years ago, and now I have the drivers side (inside) one splitting again. Is there a better solution or coverage shield out there? The clearances look pretty tight...not sure there is much room to make them much larger. Heat is the obvious culprit, as the outside ones are always fine...but I replaced them all last time just the same...and will probably do that again.

Just wondering if one could remove them and paint them with heat reflective paint?

That would help some, wouldn't it? :)

    Like high-temperature brake calliper paint?

    All the best,

Well, *maybe* that. But I dont know if that exactly reflects heat away. Its more a durable paint that wont flake when heat is applied.

I was thinking more of the roofing heat reflective paint for the home.

My friend is a painter and he bought some heat reflective paint for his garage. His garage is colour bond (tin) and I questioned as to why he would waste his money as that stuff doesn't work. :D:D

But the results speak for themselves. It dropped the tempreture in his garage and he can now walk on the roof of his garage in Summer bare foot when before the paint was applied he could not walk on the roof because it was too hot. I could also feel it was cooler inside after the paint was put on.

Im wonder if painting some of that paint on the heatshields will aid in deflecting some of the heat away from the CV boots?

Maybe not, but it also may be worth a shot. :D

Cool PAP - it'll be interesting to see if anyone tries that on their heat-shields. :)

    All the best,
    Andrew.

I pop riveted a shaped alloy cover over my two shields years ago. Never had a problem with heat to the gators since, and they look better to.

After replacing these things three times in a rather short period of time due to track use, I built a set of heat shileds that isolate the boots from the exhaust (out of aluminum). These shields block radient heat from just under 1/2 of the boot radially.

My mechanic uses the Porsche parts and adds a thin straw between the axle shaft and the boot at the axle seal. This lets the excess pressure from rising temps a path to vent without letting the grease vent.

Since then I've got 20K miles and the boots are still fine.

Mitch, I would love to see a photo of your design. If you could post it up, that would be great.

    Thanks,
    Dave

Thought I would revive this post with the hope that one of you fellas could snap a shot of the mod you did to expand the heat shields for the cvc boot. I saw grease marks during the wash today so I am contemplating both the replacement as well as adding a bit more protection as a preventative measure. There is room on passenger side, but driver side is very tight.

I'm on Summit's site now reviewing my options and would be very interested to see an example or two.

    Thanks in advance.

I'm surprised no one has tried to fabricate a cooling duct for the CV boots.

Thank you kindly for the input, I put the plates on order and plan on installing them this next weekend. I'll post a few photos once they are painted and installed.

Can anyone confirm if these Pegasus CV boots will fit a 355? I've got to replace mine and would like to use something better than stock if available.

Yes. Mine seem to be holding up after nearly 3 years. Also replaced the shields with the carbon fibre ones from Superperformance UK.
